Just installed the western digital 500gb 5400rpm (wd5000bevt) and pleased to say that it is whisper quiet in my MBP 13" with no whooshes, clunks or beeps.

I have the same drive installed in my white 2007 macbook, runs great.

Just let me add my opinion to this. Western Digital always, Seagate never.

I say this not from a performance perspective but one of reliability. I work in tech support for a major retailer and pretty much every laptop I have ever dealt with that had a faulty hdd was fitted with a seagate.
On a personal level, the only drives i have ever had fail on me personally have been Maxtor and Seagate. Yes they exchange them without a quibble but all the data is gone (I do backup, but still annoying).

I have never had a WD fail, all my techie colleagues also swear by WD and hate Seagate. The repair company we work with also avoid Seagate if they can. Just not reliable.

Just my limited experience but thought it should be pointed out that better performance is no good if it breaks all the time!

Funny, I'm exactly the opposite (well, after Samsungs, of course).

The only Seagate I've had a problem with was the first iteration of the 1.5 TB desktop (firmware problem). That one was RMA'd and its replacement (and 3 others) has been fine.

I've had three WD drives fail. One was at 11 months and the tech services had me reinitialize the drive to see if that "fixed" the problem. It did for 2 more months, then the drive failed completely. Guess what? I was SOL on the warranty because the drive was 13 months old. Screw WD. They'll never get another penny from me.

Just got my Seagate yesterday. Originally I was going to go for the Scorpio Blue because of all the problems I heard but I decided to take a gamble and boy, am I happy. This thing is fast, quiet, and reliable. Very noticeable difference. Only complaint is that I can feel the vibration of it ever so slightly, but I kind of expected that since it is a higher RPM drive. Overall I'm very happy and can't wait to run more tests on it. :D

Does scorpio blue get warm? I upgraded from Seagate 7200.3 to WD 500gb Blue and I can feel it get warm and that didn't happen with 7200.3
