Hello all!

I have a Series 0 SS 42mm Apple Watch that I dearly love, and I’m looking at in the future getting a Series 7.

But I’m a guy with a very small wrist - I have a hard time keeping weight on all my life - and I’m concerned that the 45mm watch will just look comically big on my wrist. When I go to the store, I try them on, but the security brackets make it hard to judge the actual size difference.

So I’m curious; did anyone here that used to use the 42mm watches go down to the new 41mm size? Does anyone here have a 42mm previous gen and a 45mm current one that could take a picture for me?

As far as I can tell, the screen size of the 41mm 7th is *still* bigger than my 42mm, so it’s not like I’d be losing screen real estate.

It would also mean I can’t reuse my current bands, but that’s fine.

It might sound silly but… I just don’t think the 45mm watch will look good on me as it’s almost as wide as my wrist is. What do you all think? I’ve include a picture of the 42mm Series 0 on my wrist. CB12A603-41AC-487B-A5BD-5040324283BA.jpeg

Well, there's no rule here. Some people like the look of large watches and others don't. So unless you really, really want that larger watch display, then I'd suggest sticking with the smaller Series 7. If you DO really really want the larger display, then you'll have to weigh that desire against your dislike of the look of the large watch on your smaller wrist. Personally, I have no preference, so I always opt for the larger one. And let's face it - even that looks tiny in comparison so some of the giant watches people wear!

I’m a proponent of larger watch faces. But in your case, based on how your current 42mm fits/looks, I believe you’ll be happier with the 41mm. The 45mm may look ridiculously large.

I had the same dilemma, didn't know what size to go to from my 42mm Series 2 watch. I took advantage of Best Buy's extended holiday return period that started in October and got both sizes so that I could have a few months to try them both out. I really wanted to like the bigger one, but ended up going with the 41mm for a couple reasons. (For reference, my wrist size is around 165mm.)

The main reason is that I found the 41mm to be much more comfortable. I had to check my wrist multiple times to make sure it was still on since I could barely feel it most of the time. The 45mm had some extra weight that was noticeable, and the side would rub the top part of my wrist/hand when my hand was bent upwards. (A different band may have alleviated those problems, but I prefer using the standard sport bands.)

The other reason, which is more of a personal preference, is that the 45mm didn't really show much more content in most situations. Most of the time, it was the same content as the 41mm but just blown up. (Yes, I know you can change the text size, but that doesn't change the size of everything...icons and buttons are still large.) It reminded me of those phones designed for seniors where everything is comically large, especially when it was on my smallish wrist.

Thank you very much for the replies everyone! I really appreciate the input. Based on what everyone’s saying, I think I’ll definitely go for the 41mm this time!

Why don't you go to an apple store or Best Buy to try them out? assuming one of those is nearby ...
I would, but the closest store is a Best Buy, and they have chonky security brackets attached to the watches that makes them nearly impossible to see how they fit on my wrist!

41 mm for sure. This is the 40mm SE. 44/45 would be too big for me personally. (That’s a piece of dust or whatever on my screen)

Really, they won’t take those off to let you try the watch on? Last time I was at Best Buy was a month or so ago but I wasn’t looking for watches so did not pay attention… obviously your call, me personally, I’d go there and ask a manager to remove the security device.

Well - the Best Buy by me has custom security devices (I'm assuming designed by Apple by the looks of them) that are glued to the bottom of the devices - they can't be removed and add about 5mm thickness to the watch itself and surround it. If they're unglued from the mount, the alarm will go off :p

But I think I'm pretty darn sure that the 41mm is what I want. Does anyone by chance happen to have a 41mm and a old 42mm they can post a picture side by side for me? It's surprisingly hard to find comparison pics online!

I could deliver 41 / 44 comparison. Went from 44 down to 41 and I would ever do it again. Difference in screen real estate is not that much and I appreciate the look of the smaller one on my wrist. Looks more like a watch instead of a big screen on my wrist. And the 45 would have been even bigger…
