I own an Apple 27" Core i7 iMac.

I just bought a Dell 3008WFP (30" LCD Display) (link)
http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/...etail.aspx?c=us&l=en&s=dhs&cs=19&sku=223-4890

It has full size display port, hdmi, vga and dvi. As you know though it's a 30" so it needs "dual-link" DVI from whatever is driving pixels to it.

So the iMac, to my knowledge only has Mini-DisplayPort, right? How do I get the iMac to push the 30" at full resolution?

Thanks!

As far as I know, MDP to HDMI only does up to 1920x1080 so that wouldn't be full screen. MDP to dual-link DVI will work for sure but it's quite expensive solution

Do people even bother to search anymore?

That doesn't give an answer to OP's question... DVI and HDMI adapters work when dealing with 24" and smaller displays but OP has 30" 2560x1600 monitor and HDMI and DVI (single-link) can't handle that much.

It would be full screen not full res.

It wouldn't as 2560x1600 is 16:10 and 1920x1080 is 16:9 :p But yea, I doubt OP is satisfied with 1920x1080 when his display is able to do 2560x1600

Correct. I paid an extra $700 for the 30" display and I sold my 24" to upgrade so yeah I'm not gonna be "okay" with that resolution.

I'm just going to spend the $99 for Apple's DisplayPort to Dual-Link DVI Adapter. There are two reviews about Dell 30" Displays with the adapter. One says it works, the other says it doesn't so I'm just going to try my luck.

There's always the 14 day return policy. I'm just bummed about Apple's DisplayPort switch. It's a step back in my opinion.

Just posting an update. The adapter from apple worked. $99 but money well spent. the sleep issues some people are mentioning isn't the case. iMac goes to sleep, hit keyboard and dell wakes up along with it. perfect!
