Already checked them side by side and as much as I love the 15 inches on a screen the Pro looked a lot better.
If Apple would only make a 15 inch Pro I would dive into it yesterday.

That is configuration that I would like to get. I also would be moving from an M1. Did you order from Apple and use their trade in service?
I wouldn't recommend Apple trade-in as you're going to get lousy money. When upgrading I typically sell my old machine on Swappa. Perfectly legit site.

I have same dilemma...been itching to get the 15" Air forever cause of the slimmness + screen size / estate.
Currently have MBP 14" M2 Pro 1TB / 16GB, will I be a dumbass to upgrade (downgrade) to the 15" M5 Air? I just checked and MBA by default does offer a few more pixels of screen estate compared to 14", even though I know the PPI is less.
  1. HDMI is handy...but I already have dongle for that and use it like <once a month. Same with SD Card...I almost never use it
  2. Promotion is nice...but I am someone who games on 30FPS still and dont care, and I only game on console
  3. Current MBP also only has 87% battery capacity left and somehow only lasts me 2.5hrs : p
  4. I do mostly design work w/Figma, browsers, claude. Occasionally video work but just editing, no effects
Help!

I've downgraded to a MacBook Air before and I loved it. Best laptop Ive own. Now that m5 air is out eventually plan on purchasing one again.

I had a MacBook Air M4 with 24GB RAM 512GB HD. I always wanted a pro with nano texture. I traded in my MacBook Air and got the MacBook Pro M5 Pro with Nano Texture 24GB RAM and 1TB HD. After trade in I paid the same as an MacBook Air 15. My monthly payments is $119 for 12 months. This is what I wanted, I settled for MacBook Air and that was not what I wanted. I don't regret it.

For those thinking the Air gives more screen real estate, yes and no. I'm running roughly the same screen real estate on my 14" MacBook Pro. 1662x1080, which is super nice and due to extra pixel density of the pro, still looks very sharp. That killed any desire to get the 15" MBA for me. I'll be picking up my M5 MBP next week.

I’m switching from M3 Air to M5 Pro because my laptop gets hot and seems to have issues with my 32” 4K external monitor. There’s input lag and GUI lag. Copilot tells me my issues will be solved with a laptop that doesn’t throttle and has a fan and higher memory bandwidth. Who knows but I got a great deal on it. Good luck with your decision.
My mba m1 is driving 4k144 just fine

How much ram?
