No offense taken by me (MacRAND), just enjoying the intellectual exercise.
Buying a computer is tough, it's a lot of money and we all know (like buying a new auto) that as soon as we take it out of the box, it is obsolete. Yuck!
Okay, I'm sorry too. Go for Config2 with the SuperDrive then upgrade when you can afford it. If you are really thinking about a ComboDrive (it's ok) then seriously consider a G4 iBook 14", it's awesome and you'll save big bucks. And, they just got upgraded so its obsolescence should be further away. Seriously! But immediately MAX out the RAM in an iBook, always. If you don't the hard drive will be working overtime constantly.

International Affairs: if you are serious about a career in a Fortune 500's international department, they hire as many out of each graduating class from the American Graduate School of International Management (called Thunderbird) in Glendale, AZ. as they can.
Suggest solid foundation in "finance" because poly-sci won't get you anywhere; and you'll need to master one foreign language, like Chinese, Russian, Arabic, or for some location in the world where American commerce has an active interest. Check it out.

Um, I speak chinese, german, and english. so I think I have the language thing covered. I plan on working for the United Nations after I graduate... yes, I know, for next to no money... but thats ok for me.

heres my buck fifty

I love the new iBooks!

My friend has one and its great!
Get the 933 with a airport card and ofcourse max out the ram!
The battery life is great and it is as fast almost as the PB.
And in many way superior, in heat and fan noise!

I hope to get one soon.

That or an older TiPB, you can get one at a good price and that would be great, but the resale would not be that great after the G5 PB come out.

ok, so do what i say, cause I am always right.!
At least thats what my girlfriend tells me!

WOW!
UN is good experience.
Thunderbird would teach you to speak like a native.
With UN and your language background, the CIA would pay a premium for you. But more than language, whether business or government, they need Americans who have immersed themselves in the foreign culture sufficiently to know the nuances of not only what is said, but what is not said, and why.

My brother spent 5.5 years in Japan working for Greyhound Financial & Leasing (as a banker for $5-million plus deals), and he found that to be exactly true. He knew his Japanese was "good" enough, when they began to correct his grammar, choice of words, and pronunciation instead of smiling all the time and just being polite to the "barbarian".
