Ok, so i backuped everything with time machine.
I'm about to install my new 500gb drive. Do I still need my old snow leopard install disc to reinstall everything, or will the time machine be fine?

i believe you need a disc to get things started. I am sure I had to use one when I replaced mine. I will try to find the site that has clear instructions.

If you want to restore your original to the new drive, startup on you SL disc and choose "Restore from Time Machine Backup" from the utility menu. You'll end up with a clone if your old drive (less any files you excluded from TM, of course).

another option you could try is using super duper to make a copy of your existing drive and then swap in the new drive and boot off the super duper drive and recopy everything over to the new drive.

This is the method i used because i didnt have access to my SL discs.

Ok, well here's the thing. I have a leopard disc with me right now, but my snow leopard disc is back at my college.
My back up is through my snow leopard.

Hmm...

The Leopard disk should work fine. I'm not aware of any changes between 10.5 and 10.6 that would affect a Time Machine backup/restore.
