Help dont know what i am doing [white/grey screen w/Apple logo]

Hi

My set son has got a IMAC desktop, he got it off his dad it came without OS disk and we do not know what the admin password is so cannot update or instal anything.

I tried to reset by

Command S

mount -uw /
rm /var/db/.AppleSetupDone (this command did not work)
I then typed exit or reboot

The system is now stuck a white/grey screen with apple logo and spinning wheel. dont know what os using

Totally out of my depth always used PC's

How can I fix this

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Step 1: Find the serial number. It should be on a label on the computer case.

Step 2: Call AppleCare and order replacement Install Discs. This is not free, so ask them what the charge will be first.
