I dropped it too :(

i dropped my phone in the toilet about an hour ago i would say or less and I 1st hit it against a piece of cloth and a lot of the water came out, but i'm sure not all did. I've been reading your post and realized that i didn't turn my phone off when it happened i basically just watched it turn off.. :/ and it vibrated many times and i saw the screen turning on and off, so i continued to hit it to take the water out... i guess it was a dumb idea.. because after it totally turned off and i tried turning it on twice... it didn't work, so i looked for remedies online and found the rice one, so i'm here waiting for my phone and i'm hoping and praying it will work in two days :( btw, it's an iphone 4 that i just fixed the cracked screen to and the home button that wasn't working properly...

I would like some feed back on what you guys think, no negativity please though. this site is to help not criticize...

Iphone in toilet any hope

Thank You Triple P, really appreciate your post on this water/toilet phone issue. I had a similar experience today. I tried to get my toddler to take a nap this morning. In the process, I put my phone down for a moment so I could focus on getting her to nap but in getting her to nap, I had also fallen asleep too and unfortunately for me, she woke up before me! When I finally woke up, all I heard was her happy laughter running around the room. While enjoying this moment, I reached for my phone only to find it's missing and since she can't really talk that much yet and isn't able to tell me where it is, I had to look for it and found it soaking nicely in the toilet! I have no idea how long it's been there but it was dripping wet! Unlucky for me, I have done everything that you are not supposed to do! I tried to turn it on, I used hair dryer to dry it then a friend recommended putting it in front of a fan which I did. I then proceeded in charging it as the phone wasn't fully charged and we went out. I had it out under the sun constantly and it's no longer dripping wet so I tried turning it on and charging it again when we got home and now it's not evening coming on at all. I now have it buried in our uncooked rice and I'm hoping for a miracle. any other suggestions or someone with similar experience, I'm all ears. Please no name callings, first time having this issue so I wasn't aware of the rules of don't. thanks.

Ok. So I'm freaking out right now and never thought I'd be one of those people, but I just dropped my phone in the toilet for less than a second.

Should I count myself lucky and jut leave it or is there something I should do?

I've read that this is the number cause of water damage. I'm not sure why it's such a frequent occurrence but I've had friends do this as well.

It was also cited in an article a I read recently about the spray on clear coating that is being developed. They say with the coating in place, it will keep the phone safe for periods of submersion not to exceed 30 seconds.

also dropped phone in toilet

ok, so i dropped mine in the toilet and everything works but only sometimes. The touch screen feature will only work after it has been plugged in to the charger. once i unplug it, after a few seconds (about 5) the touch screen stops working. Now i see that i should have never turned it on or anything like that. So i have turned it off and placed it in a bowl of rice. anyone ever seen it react like this?

i saved my drown iphone 5 just an hour ago

hi friends .
i dropped my iphone 5 in the sink of the bathtub yesterday . so i immediately picked it up and dried it with paper towels and turn it off and put it under direct sunlight for two hours . i couldn't resist to stay out of iphone for such a long time so , i then turn it on took it with me to the market . the screen was intermittently working .the phone was like having cardiac attack . so , i felt too scary that i ama lose my iphone . anyway i read a lot of tips and hints about dropping iphone in the water through the internet and i found that wet iphone should be turned off and put in a dry uncooked rice for at least 24-48 hours . i followed the advice and yeeeehaaaa !!!!!!!!!!!!! now my phone is in perfect shape fully working and functioning . alhamdulillah . so buddy if you drop your phone in the water just dry it and put it in the uncooked rice and have little faith in the rice !!!

yes it occured with me too where i get stuck on home screen with nothing i can move or press . sometime i scream and swear at the f???ing iphone5 but i finally held the power button and home button together for 10 seconds till the phone goes off . but now the phone seems to be fine after only 12 hours in the uncooked rice . cross your fingers and hope that your phone is gonna be survived !!!!!

While I've never done this, an expert once told me to turn off the device and immediately put it in a bowl filled with 91% Ispropyl alcohol. The alcohol goes in and forces any water out of the device and then the alcohol evaporates in seconds once removed. I would still leave the phone alone for a day or two after removing from the alcohol before turning it on.

I would like to add that it is probably a bad idea to do this with a device that doesn't have a removable battery. Live batteries and bowls of alcohol could be bad.

I've done the same!

Basically yesterday i dropped mine down the toilet with my life flashing before my eyes of course, but my phone was still on once i took it out the loo, so i took it out and got the back cover off, and also i dried it with tissue to get the excess water off. Then my mum told me to put it in rice, as my phone obviously would be wet inside and the sound on my phone wasnt working but everything else seemed to be. So this morning after being advised around 24 hours first off to see if it would help I checked my phone after leaving it in rice. The sound is back! Woo hoo i thought it was all perfect. But now my phone wont charge. It starts to charge for like a second then goes off again. So ive taken the SIM out and put it back in rice, is there anything else i can do? Or will i need a new battery?

A friend of mine washed hers in the washing machine over the weekend. It's sitting in rice for a few days. Hopefully it will work.

I did the same thing, except it was in the bathtub.
However, it didn't even drop all the way. It was only up to the home button and I took it out after from half a second to barely a second.
I turned it off and immediately put it in a bag of rice.
It's been twenty-four hours sitting in the rice and I'm wondering if I should take it out or not hmm...
Okay update after a minute.
My dad put it on this thing in the dryer and I really hope it's stable because if it isn't I'm doomed.

The friend that I mentioned a few days ago, no luck after putting it in rice. She contacted a local place that said that they can soak it in a solution & dry.... $10 and got a 50/50 chance of it working.

I've never heard of this before. Has anyone? I really doubt it will work.

To anyone who has dropped their iDevice in water ... have faith in the uncooked rice trick and don't rush to spend your hard-earned money on a replacement. My son recently dropped his iPod Touch in the toilet, dried it with a towel and placed it on a shelf with the water-logged case still on. I didn't realize what had happened until after I had already (1) tried several times to power it on, and (2) connected it to the wall charger, thinking my son had simply drained the battery like he often does. I pretty much did everything you're NOT supposed to do when trying to revive a wet device. Nevertheless, I tried the uncooked rice trick, fully expecting it to fail, but it worked like a charm. After two days in the rice, nothing was working; after four days, it powered on, but with no functionality; and after a full week in the rice, everything worked perfectly (I did, however, have to do a restore). That was a couple months ago, and everything is still working perfectly. YMMV, but I wanted to share my experience with others who might otherwise give up prematurely on a water-logged iDevice. ;)

Congratulation it worked for you. But a whole week is too long, plus puting a device dropped to toilet in to rice is not acceptable for me.
I can not wait that long. I just dropped Iphone in to toilet and picked up immediately, flushed it with tap water (yeah, kind of put more water on it). I can not let it just dry with toilet water, so I flushed it with clean tap water, not only flushed surface, but also rinsed water to bottom charger hole and headphone socket. After that shake it heavily, trying to get rid of water spots. Of-cause I tried to turn it off but the phone behaves weird, A white apple icon kept shown on and off on the screen and I could not turn it off.

After that, I went down to the parking lot, put the phone on the dash cup board. It is sunny day, the temperature rose up quickly, especial on black color of IPhone. 15 minutes late, I could not be able to hold the ihpone by hand, it is too hot to be hold. The flashing white apple icon gone.

I managed to take it back (put it on a magazine and hold the magazine) left it on my office desk. You won't be able to turn it on, cause IPhone has a heat protection sensor. 10 minutes late, It cools down and it is already on. Every thing works as before.

It sounds like I abuse the Iphone with bad temperature, but I knew most components today can bear 80 Celsius shortly, without problem.

The heat dries the water.

One more surprised me is the oval button, it did not work very well, it is an old IPhone 4S (that is why I did this, heat it to dry. I probably will not try it on new IPhone, because if my way did not work, then I got an excuse to upgrade a new version of IPhone. 'unfortunately', it worked)
