[HELP]FCPX with external hard disk?

Hello, I was using FCPX (version 10.3.1) and I got a new external hard disk. I reformatted it to Mac OS Extended (Journaled) and I started saving media for my videos to the disk. I was using it for 1 week and everything was fine. Even today, I imported a photo and then used it. Then I opened the import window to import something else. Suddenly, all the subfolders in the main media folder disappeared on the window and all the files in it just came out in one large pile. I checked Finder and the subfolders are still there.
I swear I didn't change any settings. Please help!!!!!

You can always restore a backup of your fcpx library to a previous state.

I don't really think that is what I need, but how do I do that? cmd+z?
