Help for a Newbie Nerd picking up on launch? :D

I've never gotten really anything on release day before, how does it work? I know I can pre order on the 15th, does that mean the 15th at midnight? or 9AM or some other time? I don't want it mailed to me, I want to go to an Apple store in the morning and pick it up how early should I show up, and how long can I expect to wait? any help for a newb? 🙂
