Can someone tell me what's up with my MP3,1 (2008)? Beginning a week ago, upon start/restart Finder windows open one after the other as fast as they will open! This cannot be stopped and only ceases after many (100? 200?) windows open on the desktop. They can then be closed individually but this is very slow, especially at first. With all the windows open, the MP responds slowly otherwise as well.

This began concurrent with the failure of one of my system drives which was itself in a RAID 1 arrangement. It continues now that I have installed a new SSD boot drive and a separate application/data drive. Of course, I did clone (with CCC) the system information to the SSD and the app/data to the new HD from the surviving formerly-RAIDed drive.

I thought perhaps it's a stuck key, or something silly like that, but it doesn't happen with a different boot drive (which was never associated with the boot dive that failed).

    Thank you for your thoughts.

That behavior almost sounds like malware, but given its Mac (even with Windows 7) I'd highly doubt it. Sounds like an automator script running?

Try disabling all startup items and see if that changes anything.

I know too that if you open a ton of finder windows, then quit Finder (can be done via TinkerTool), then open it again all the Finder windows will pop back up ala a "restore session", but if they're being closed after its booted and they're not opened again all at once before the machine's shut down, I honestly have no more ideas at the moment.

That is kinda bizzare thouh

Until you've figured out the reason for this, use cmd+alt+w in Finder to close all windows at once.

Check System Preferences > Accounts > youraccount > Login Items to see what may be launching at startup.
