Step 4: Reinstall a clean Mac operating system
  1. Restart your Mac.
  2. While the startup disc is waking up, hold down the Command+R keys simultaneously. ...
  3. Click on Reinstall macOS (or Reinstall OS X where applicable) to reinstall the operating system that came with your Mac.
  4. Click on Continue.
I did this a while back. Not sure what screen it is, but if you see a wifi icon up in the upper right hand corner, click on it to establish a network connection and then download the macOS system. The wifi icon may be in another location, but it will be somewhere on the screen. Worked for me...

Thank You, I have tried this but there is nowehere to select to reinstall the OS to. It wont let me press continue

I don't understand how you could delete your hard drive? The system will definitely not let you delete the drive that macOS is installed on while it's up and running. Explain how you deleted it so we can figure out exactly what happened and then try a repair.

I was following the instructions to erase all my info to sell. I only had the choice of Macintosh HD so selected that to delete so now all I have when I open Disk Utility is the Disk Images - macOS base system

So when I select reinstall OS there is nothing to select.

1. Boot to internet recovery
- Command-OPTION-R at boot
- You'll need your wifi password
- It may take a while to load, BE PATIENT

2. ERASE the internal drive
- Open disk utility
- Go to view menu and if you see the choice "show all devices", choose it
(If you DON'T see it, don't worry about it)
- Select the TOP line on disk utility's "list" (on the left). This represents the physical drive inside the MacBook
- Click the erase button. IMPORTANT:
a. If you're installing High Sierra or earlier, use Mac OS extended with journaling enabled, GUID partition format
b. If you're installing Mojave, use APFS, GUID partition format
- Erase the drive and close disk utility.

3. Install the OS
- Open the OS installer and begin "clicking through" the install process
- The computer may reboot once or twice, and it will take some time, BE PATIENT.

4. Set up your account
- When the install is done, begin setup.

That should do it.

The advice in reply 6 above is stolen word for word from this post I put up yesterday:

I wouldn't mind, except there is no accreditation.

It's best to have a USB wired Keyboard and Mouse as a backup for Apple's Bluetooth ones. They have come in handy when rebuilding both Macs and PCs.

There are inexpensive ones available at the box stores, e.g. Best Buy. I currently use a USB mouse with my iMac as I dislike the Apple mouse.
