Time, because it rules EVERYTHING!
Hi guy's,

We have very recently lost our wonderful doggy, I am trying to make an album of all the photos and videos we had of him but I've come across a snag.

On my Mums iPad 3 we have tons of photos and videos of him but not made using the iPads camera, they have been copied across over time from various sources. I am trying to get them off the iPad which is running iOS 8.1 onto my MacBook Pro which is running OSX 10.9.5 at the moment, I haven't updated it to Yosemite yet.

The issue I have is when I connect the iPad to my computer and iPhoto launches, it only shows me 3 photos to import, not anywhere near all the photos and videos the iPad has on it? I don't know how to get around this? Can anyone help me with this?

Easiest fix: upload them to dropbox from the iPad and then you can get them on your computer.

Otherwise, it sounds like you may have turned on iCloud Library which broke being able to sync between Aperture/iPhoto. You could add them to a shared public photo stream. Then you could go to the weblink on your computer to download also.

Ah, thank you, can you make the Photo Stream private at all rather than public? I can do it this way as we have unlimited internet. I don't use drop box etc.

You can but you won't be able to get the link that way. It will only be available on iDevices which defeats the purpose. You can always make it private once you've downloaded all the photos to your computer.

Dropbox is free and if your intent is to share photos, you can easily do it from there as well and it's not restricted to iCloud users. It's a handy service.

Thank you, I think I will need to go the Drop Box way then as some of the photos have my family in. I shall have a look into it. The aim is to get the photos into iPhoto and then from there I will use iMovie to make a DVD.

Thank you for all your help.

You're very welcome. And sorry about your pup. We lost one of ours a few years ago so I know the feeling. Condolences.

Depending on whether you're on a Mac or Windows, look into things like PhoneView, TouchCopy, or iMazing. (Or other similar apps.) While all these apps cost money for the full versions, every one of them can help you retrieve your photos directly onto your hard drive via USB cable.

PhoneView has saved me quite a few times in the past (iTunes used to routinely eat random songs, and I'd be left with just the copy I had on my phone). I do second the rec for using Dropbox as well, but having a mechanism other than iTunes on your computer for retrieving individual media files is definitely something many people should have.

PhotoSync is what you need to help with this.

Lost our 12.5yr old lab in July. Feel your pain and sorry.

Thanks for all the help guy's, so what I have done is singed up to Onedrive, I just used my old messenger/ Xbox Live account and I got 30GB for free :)

So I used that Photosync app which copied ALL of the pics and videos of the iPad to my Mac, and then I am copying them into the cloud.
I will then organise everything, put the Onedrive app onto all our devices and then use the Onedrive for backup and access, then ensure they are all copied to my Mac which will then backup to my Timecapsule.

So all the photos in three places. Should be safe.

I was asked to post some photos of Jasper, so here are just a few, I had a couple of others but it didn't want to upload them? Have tons more though.
Still miss him everyday :(

Nice looking dog. Sorry for your loss.

What a beautiful boy! I'm sorry for your loss and hope you're remembering the loving, good times you spent together. I know he's at the Bridge waiting for you.

Thank you for your very kind words. He was a very beautiful fella. Had a really well shaped nice Spaniel head, and then the sad eye's they have which were very expressive with Jasper. You could tell what he was thinking haha.
