Help! I just witnessed an ant crawl under my keyboard!

To try to give you some useful information, here goes:

I don't think you need to worry, just check your User Settings and the like and make sure you are set up to not log in imediately as "insert user name here" and restart and see if it works alright. If everything else seems to be working, chalk it up to experience and to not take the keyboad off while running (or while the computer is on I suppose 😉 ).

Make sure you give a proper barial to the ant that fell in the line of duty.
 
ok, you are all too technical, maybe in the process of putting the keyboard back in, you accidentally hit the light button, u know, those little sun buttons that control the brightness, that makes it go black.

lol the simplest answer is often the right one 😛

oh, and i too laughed at "it's probably just a bug"

This is not the case on my ibook G3. I have run it many times with the keyboard out of it's place. It runs cooler that way on hot days.

About the ant . . . I had computer "bug" in my iBook once too. I put my iBook down next too a new plant it got . . . and the plant had spider mites 😱 Anyways, one of them somehow got into the top case (I guess it liked the bak light). And was wandering around behind the apple logo. 😕 I didn't want to move the machine for fear of squishing the mite between the backlight and the logo and forever having a little greenish blot. Eventually it came out 😛
 
Darn where ants are, cockroaches and other critters will appear soon. Be especially aware of Racoons

i spilled a little bit of Soda on/in my keyboard the other day... doooohhhh 😱
have a PBG4 1 GHz
turned the pooter off and pulled out the removable keyboard and started pulling keys off to clean it...
i Could not believe how much CRAP was under the keys... crumbs, hair, DNA of some sort or other, just SO MUCH JUNK..
Would be a feast for any Ants. wouldnt hurt to use some compressed Air and "try" to clean it out once in a while. haha 🙄
 
I don't mind ants crawling into my computer, what'd worry me is they crawl in but never come out again 😱
 
Have tried Repairing your Permissions? That should take care of that Ant.

Or if you have AppleCare I'm pretty sure ants are covered.
 
I am sure your computer will be alright, I doubt you caused any significant problems. Granted, I hold the anterior hypothesis that you didn't do anything dumb to mess up your computer while you were inside. If there are any long term problems, then how old is your iBook? If it is less than a year old, you can probably get a replacement or repair from Apple, or if it is antiquated and you cant get Apple to cover it, you might have to ante up for a new computer.

(!!) Regarding dvdh's picture of a squirrel and a computer.... that is interesting, as we did have a problem here involving them.

A squirrel (or squirrels unknown) chewed through the network line coming in from our ISP, the one on the telephone poles, before it enters the building. Note that these are sheathed in metal. I guess they were teething, or lacking iron, or something, but they cut off the connection completely... it was fun figuring THAT out. I think we even still have the metal cover for the cable somewhere, riddled with tooth-marks... so you never know.

(Side note: I love spell-check. I am completely unable to spell "squirrel".)
