Hi guys,

I'm trying to restore a corrupt .mov file which was created by a 2007 macbook pro camera many years ago. In order to do this I need a reference file, which would be a file as similar as possible to the corrupted one. Does anyone have a .mov file they made with a macbook pro camera from around 2007? Any size is fine, would appreciate it. Thanks!

Did you try converting it instead of just playing? Maybe with Handbrake. Or using a player that is supporting almost any video format like IINA or VLC.

Yes, all of the above. I also tried using some ffmpeg commands as well. Through searching the interwebs I have found a tool called Untrunc but it required a reference file which is as similar to the one you are trying to recover as possible.

I'm sure some people with old intel MBPs will be here and can make a video. But I think it might also be important to know the OS X version it had been done with and maybe the software. I don't know much about video codecs, but I am sure it has changed by the years even if the file extension is still the same.

If you have asked a few months earlier I would have been able to organize a video made by a 2008 white plastic MacBook running Snow Leopard. Maybe that had been similar.. But now it's gone. :(

P.S.: I could ask if all three were trashed or only the two devices for spare parts. But may take some days.

The software was definitely the native built in camera app. Might have been photobooth? Hard to say about the OS, could have been anything from Snow Lion to Yosemite. Appreciate the help.

If my mother still has this 2008 MB. I could ask her to make a short video with Photo Booth. Lion was the official last version for that one, not sure if really Snow Leopard is installed or Lion.

Seems the Pros from 2007 got up to El Capitan.

Maybe you can see when the file had been originally created to know what OS version had been recent then.

MacTracker says both have a "Built-in iSight" camera. So it could be the same. No more information. Everymac doesn't even mention a camera for both.

I could ask her tomorrow to make a video, if she still has it. I think she only used it for email in Thunderbird and printing. But I don't know if she is able to send it to me. So it could take until next week to get hold on it.

Can't ask now, because it's 3 in the morning and later when she gets up I might sleep.

I'm sure someone here will be faster to help.

Very kind of you, thanks!
