My Conclusion!

Hi all, :)

Thank you for your help. I wanted to update you on what ended up happening.

On Saturday, I made appointments at 4 Apple stores, cuz I wasn't sure where I would be.

I went to the 5th Ave. store at 1pm. They were very busy, but the guy at the genius bar gave me 1/2 hour of his time. He said he couldn't do anything more than I did. He wouldn't do any diagnostic stuff or try to do anything but start my G4 up. Of course, it froze in the finder window of my HD1...couldn't open itunes or anything on HD1, couldn't open anything or move anything to the new 500GB drive.

He said that I should go to TEKSERVE.

I had stuff to do so at 5:30PM, I made it over to TEKSERVE, and when I got there, the guy told me that he could retrieve my data for $600. I told him that I wasn't going to do that. I wanted him to just do something to repair my hard drive. He said that he would check it out...He plugged it in and told me that my logic board was dead and that I didn't have a computer anymore.

Is that how they getcha?

I told him that it worked a couple of hours ago at the apple store and just hard drive 1 was bad. He said he couldnt use the keyboard or mouse and he tried to restart 3 times and it had some kind of white screen with black letters saying "default clasp"?

I took my computer and my tears and went to my car.

We had to go to the 14th street apple store anyway, but I wasn't going to go in, I was going to sit in the car and just cry.

My friend got me a standby appt. at the genius bar (I already missed my 5:40pm) so I ran in and the guy helped me out big time!

First he hooked my g4 up to a monitor and it went on. That was good!

So much for TEKSERVE's expertise, they suck!

Then my very special genius hooked it to his external HD. Hard Drive 1 froze. So he set it up for a target sign-on with another laptop at the genius bar and it worked.

So...I went to the 2nd floor and bought an 80GB external HD and hooked it up, sat there for 3 1/2 hours while the stuff downloaded onto the new HD and then went home. I took out the 60GB HD1 and put it in a melba toast box. LOL...and hooked up the ext HD and put my stuff on my 500GB Hard Drive.

I lost some stuff from my hard drive cuz I'll not be using it again and some tunes from my itunes, but all my favorite tunes are on my ipod and...FYI there is a program called "senuti" (which is "itunes" spelled backwards) that will put your ipod songs back into your computer if you lose them, like i did.

Out of the 4400 songs that I had before this incident, I ended up with 2250 songs. My friend Dave loaned me his External HD with tons of music on it and now I have over 6000 songs.

Now My G4 is fast and good...all except the dvd player....but that is another thread for a different day.

Thanks again.
Patti :p

P.S. Hubby isn't allowed to do anything, but get email and type. Neither is my 12 year old. She actually did the damage by downloading stuff to itunes from acquisition, long after we had no room on the start up drive and she did it constantly many times after I told her not to.. She is punished from the computer.
