I guess it sounds like this feature is exclusive to Powerbooks then, another vote for the PBook

It would be very convenient to carry an extra battery around, but the feature that really takes the cake is this (this feature is not exclusive to the PB17 though - other PowerBooks do have it as well): you can hot-swap the battery! Let me say this again: you can close the screen (this would put the laptop to sleep, of course), take the battery out, put another one in (or the same one back in, if you are doing this just to show off), and open the screen. The PB17, like other newer generation Apple notebooks, has almost instant wake-up from sleep. So, the PB17 wakes up! There is an internal standby battery that keeps everything alive for enough time (1-3 minutes) for you to change the battery
