I’ve never used iCloud Photo Library so I’m not quite sure how it works. Just hoping someone can shed some light on this.

I got the iPhone X, which replaced my iPhone 7. I then gave the iPhone 7 to my mom, which replaced her iPhone 6. Simple SIM card swaps worked just fine.

Now the iCloud restore is where I need some clarification. My restore onto the iPhone X worked perfectly fine, just as it does every year. But I don’t have iCloud Photo Library enabled - I just backup and restore all of my photos onto each phone.

But on my mom’s it’s a bit different. She had iCloud Photo Library enabled on both her iPad and her iPhone 6. So when we did the iCloud restore onto the iPhone 7, everything loaded just fine, except the photos. There are no just photos showing at all. The Photos app just says “Updating...” I think. And on another tab it said something about scanning library for the first time might take a while. I checked in the settings and iCloud Photo Library is enabled.

So it’s been over two hours and still no change, and still no photos. Am I missing something? On my iPhone X, all of the photos populated one-by-one until the restore completed, just like I’m used to. But on hers, nothing.

Does iCloud Photo Library work differently? When should she expect them to show up? Or is there something else I need to do?

Thanks in advance!
