sorry for the late response, i went out and got F***ing blasted in celebration of my sweet computers return to the world of the living.

having trouble typing well right now ( no no not my computer, me, i'm ****ing trashed) i have NO water or ANY sort of liquid within 10 feet of my computer, i have 3 girls passed out on my futon in my living room.

It was water, purified through a PUR water filter jug...thing. i spilled a HUGE amount while playing a video game and running the computer VERY hot.

i tried turning it back on TWICE, very shortly after the spill.

i got only multicolored lines.

4.75 days later, it works flawlessly. I'm buying spill insurance and a spill protective keyboard cover.

If ANYONE has this problem in the near future with their beloved MBP, i can't help you relieve the incredible amount of heart ache that ensues, but i can tell you, i've been there and there is most certainly hope.

for the record, i did nothing fancy, i took the batt out, turned her on her stomach with the book open (no screws removed) just plain old open, and left a fan blowing on her for 4.75 days, with roughly 4 hours- 6 hours spent in a hot car. all was well after, and i pray that she stays in healthy condition.

If anything, hopefully my soon to be purchased spill prot will cover any future results of the spill, as i can claim it to be from a more recent spill >_O

again, i thank you for the encouragement and thoughts.

Hahah, well i'm glad its been one of your favorites, i hated it at first (due to my circumstances) but now, i'm pretty pleased with it.

Hope everyone else got some enjoyment out of my grief stricken, and sometimes drunken, thread.

This means a macbook pro is more waterproof than my lg phone. Piece of **** phone.

Be prepared, I'm about to lift the curtain from in front of your eyes and reveal to you the awful truth - cell phone manufacturers purposely build a moisture sensor into their phones so that when the phone inevitably get a little wet it automatically kills the phone so that you think you ruined your phone with moisture and you go buy a new phone.

The way it works is they build a moisture sensitive connection within the route going from the battery's contacts to the phone's power input contacts. When the moisture sensitive portion of the circuit gets wet it stops conducting, so all you see is that after the phone got wet your phone no longer handles power management correctly.

Here's more detail on the topic and a way you might be able to "fix" your phone that failed by design.

On some phones, there is a water-sensing strip on the OEM battery. It turns from white to pink (or other color) when water hits it. It's the first thing they look for when you bring your phone in for service.

I'm yet another moron who has doused his beloved machine in an un-needed bath (PUR filtered water, a decent amount unfortunately)

well fellas, and ladies, here's the update concerning my beloved (macbook pro 10 months old)

<snip>

i heard the most lovely sound of my life as she fired up, just as swiftly as ever. i listened to her, smelled, stared...everything runs well, internet, both through cable and airport, sound is great, the whole nine-yards.

Boy, that PUR water must be super clean! Congrats on everythig working out. So many others have had it go the other way. The fact that you tried to start it while still wet made me think you were done for. Now run along and be careful with her!

Ipod/iphone fix

Hey i joined the forum a while back but i submited a while back on the forum that i succesfully brought my waterdamaged ipod touch back from the deep blue beyond. Several people have contaced me asking how i did it and i told them Sofar we all have a 100 percent success rate of them being fixed.. The key is taking it apart and getting a dry toothbrush and scrubbing the corrosion of... Corrosion is the problem . the batterys belive it or not survive water they get shorted out by the corrosion if u try to charge it after you drop it... DO NOT charge it until you know its clean inside.. so there are several methods.. First if u have an ipod touch you can search google for Taking apart the ipod touch.. there is a picture tutorial on how to do that. There is a Youtube video for the iphone on how to take it apart the tools they will tell you on both what you need to do so. but they are both for screen replacement so you only need to unplug what can be unplugged with out de soldering any thing then scrub EVERY THING every contact where the little ribons plug to the boads.. take of the little stainless steel sheilds and scrub under those, scrub in the chargin port and and just make sure u can se most every part that would have been exposed to water
once youve removed all the corrosion put it back together dont lose any screws!! and plug it in.. it should take from 5 to 10 min to start charging up again then just leave it over night.. in the morning it will be good as new and u can restore it becasue the program gets currupted for sure then put your songs back on On the ipod touch i ran in to the problem with my back plate sorta got wornoff by taking it apart so much lol and the contact wich is part of the power was pulled away from the back plate so the circut wasnt compleated and it turned off.. I would bend the contacts up toward the back plate Just incase you have problems keeping the back plate back on but you shoulnt as long as you do it carfully unlike my self Im waiting for Ifixit to start selling the backs to an ipod touch so i can replace mine haha but Good luck and email me or im if im online if you have any questions and spread the word!!

actually, pure (like car battery liquid) water does not short circuit electronics. maybe that's why your machine got away with it.

Bump.

My computer is still running beautifully.

Anyone have any info concerning laptop insurance, to protect me should this dreadful thing ever somehow happen again?

i too am an idiot ive have a comp for 10 yrs and never spilt

I don't know what its like where you're from, but in the U.K. you can usually ring up and get them to tack things like that onto your home insurance, depending on your provider of course...

Lucky boy... a water resistant macbook pro and 3 girls passed out on our futon... ahhhh, to be at uni again...

Good to know it works now, but I think you should still open it up and replace the Kapton tapes, wipe off the connectors and especially replace the thermal paste. The connectors will rust in the future and that's no good and the thermal paste crack and your CPU will overheat.

my story....

i just had to post...

In july i had some friends over...spike got spilled on my mbp, it was on...i'm assuming about half a can or so.

I took the battery out, unplugged it, flipped it. the next day i bought contact cleaner, hoping that it would clear off any remaining spike. sprayed it, let it sit. it was about 3 days until i got the nerve to turn it back on... it worked.
and still is.

half of the keyboard is dead. i opened it yesterday, no signs of corrosion (yet) battery doesn't last 2mins when fully charged. occasional slowdowns.

i know i'm basically screwed, but i'm prepared to buy another one soon, btw anyone have anythoghts on an upgraded mbp?

not sure what else there is to say. i'm glad it's still working. oh and the display has liq. damage too... i figure about 2200 to fix as opposed to 2500 new... hmm.. lol.

At least you've managed to recover...

However, I wasn't so lucky a few years back.

My four months old PowerBook G4 1Ghz fell off the 23 floors balcony!
All i could do was stand and watch, scream at people to move out of the way! move out of the way! Thankfully it didn't hit anyone.

I tell you.. it definitely doesn't fly!

Nothing was salvageable, not even the hard drive! It completely shattered!

That's something I would like to hear more about.... Any more details on this one?

Yes, I know I am must be super-dense

3 weeks after replacing my iphone for water damage, I carelessly allowed a vase of filthy water (maybe an ounce or less) to spill on the keyboard of my pb g4. WAAAHHHH

So after googling the situation, I followed the direx (as much as I could), removed the battery, & placed my baby infront of a fan in a tent-like position.

It's been 5 days, and I finally turned it on last night. WOOT WOOT, it works....until I try to get onto the internet. For access I usually just plug in an ethernet, and have never had any issues. Today, however, I plugged it in, and on my modem (the 1 that cable/internet/phone hooks up to), the light that blinks to indicate that there is "p/c activity" will not stay lit up unless I shimmy with the cord and hold it in the entire time. Being that I like to type with both hands, its a little annoying:rolleyes:. I know I am EXTREMELY lucky that it has even turned on and is functional; but I was wondering if any of you smart cookies out there could tell me if this is possibly a manifestation of water damage?

Just a little FYI, where the liquid spilled is RIGHT in the general area of where the ethernet plugs in, so it would make sense. When I spoke to my bud @ the :apple: dealer today, he said that it could be a problem with the logic board:eek: SAY IT ISN'T SO! Any suggestions or explanations would be sincerely appreciated! Thanks, kids!

This might sound insane but I would pour distilled water over it to clean off the FILTHY WATER you poured in it. Then let it dry for three days.

I once accidently poured a glossy plastic shiner/cleaner INSIDE OF AN IBOOK. I immediately poured distilled water throughout the WHOLE COMPUTER to get that crap out. (Battery removed of course)

Two days later perfection.

You don't want any sugar, dirty water, or any minerals or cleansing solvents or anything that can conduct electricity in your laptop.

Water, preferably distilled, is the answer. IF the laptop is turned off, it really doesn't hurt anything.

That iBook is still going.

thanks so much for getting back to me about it. I would cut off my hand before I poured water on this thing again, but do you think if I took it to the :apple: guys that they could do that. I would, it sounds easy enough, but I would probably to something wrong. But like you said, there is probably grime and filth in the keyboard insides that shouldn't be in there...

To update tho, I came to my gf's house where I can pick up airport, and it works fine with the exception of a little more lagging than usual... So would you think that would equate to there being a problem primarily with the ethernet port? I apologize I'm not terribly technical savvy  thanks much.
