Hi guys,

My Mid-2010 iMac died today, the screen went gray then froze.

Currently when I power it up the screen stays black with just the boot chime sounding, then the chime sounds again and again and again.

Anyone seen this before and know what might rectify this ?

FYI if I take the RAM out it does the correct error sound for no RAM so there is some signs of life ?

Drew.

Could be the hard drive have you tried booting from an external backup??

I fixed mine by totally taking every bit apart, re-doing all the heatsink pads on the CPU / GFX card, cleaning everything and re-assebling - worked fine since.

So it was either a loose connection or overheating issue.
