So basically my iMac was being extremely slow for the past week so I decided to reset it. I put it into recovery mode and went into Disk Utility and deleted Macintosh HD hoping to reset my mad. Now when I am in recovery mode and I go into ‘Reinstall macOS’ there is only one disk and it is locked. Here is an image of the locked disk when I try to reinstall MacOS. And I have also attached an image of my disk utility and as you can see there is no longer a Macintosh Disk and I don’t know what to do please help and when I restart my Mac it automatically sends me into recovery mode.

Is disk encryption enabled? In the old days you could unlock the drive using Disk Utility to Turn Off Encryption while booted from recovery if I remember correctly. Maybe that helps...

How do I check if I have disk encryption enabled? Also I think it is locked because I erased the startup drive and it doesn’t know what to start up on but I’m not sure

Assuming you got a working backup of your all your files: Press "alt" during startup. Boot from recovery. Run Disk Utility. Erase and create a new internal volume. Install MacOS.

I didn’t save any backup of my files because I had reset it previously like a year ago and I didn’t have any important documents on it.

Please note this method will make you completely lose your files, nothing will be recovered.

1) Follow this guide where it says "erase your disk". If your disk is hard disk drive (HDD) use MacOS Extended Journaled. If your hard drive is solid state drive(SSD) choose APFS. I believe you should choose the top most disk, for you that is the one that says "Apple HDD" https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT208496

2)After you have erased and setup your drive, on the recovery screen you should see an option that says Install MacOS. Follow this guide: Restore Mac OS or Re-install Mac Os Using Internet Recovery for Mac Operating System

You erased the Macintosh HD partition, you have to recreate it using Disk Utility. The disk is locked because, as result of erasing the os partition, you now have the recovery partition occupying the whole disk and you can't install the os in the recovery partition because it is always locked. If your Mac has internet recovery I'd advise you to reinstall the os using that option
