Not posted anything in a long time and think I'm quite of of touch with modern setups. The last Mac I bought was in 2009! Until today; just ordered a new Macbook Pro and think i might need to update my setup for backups, external drives and really just wondering if there is anything new.

Current setup is:
Working files on Mac's internal drive.
External drive with archived files.
External drive for TM to back up both of the above drives.
Carbonite for online backups.
Old MacPro used as an occasional NAS that I clone drives to.

The current set up is in an outbuilding at home. The new laptop will be used mostly there but also inside the house and maybe in a van. Mostly photo and video editing so some large files.

Carbonite is glitchy and slow so wondering what else could be used. TM works well for me now but don't know if thats changed much?

I’m using idrive as my Web backup, otherwise very similar setup. Compared to Carbonite, you pay for storage capacity with idrive so for me it ended up being cheaper since I only need 5TB. At 10TB it’d be a little more expensive, and there are higher options too.
