I was wondering if anyone could help me with the car accident exercise in Professional Photoshop 5th edition. I'm trying to figure out how Dan Margulis came up with the curves in Figure 2.7 on page 33.

My curves looked different. The range I got for each channel when I moused over the dent on the car was also much different. For example, the red channel range was only in the area of the 4 middle squares of the grid.

I really don't understand this exercise. How do you find the range? What is the real secret to writing the curve for this stupid exercise?

Sorry, I'm getting pretty frustrated with this confusing book. I always seem to guess the wrong answers in the exercises.

Just to let you know, I've got the light part of the image on the left side of the curves grid, and dark part on the right.

    Thanks for any help.
