Hi guys, I am new to mac and I just got my macbook from my brother. I can't install .pkg files and I can't find the Installer in Utilities. I tried searching for it and i can't find it too. My brother lost the OS cd too. I have Mac OS X 10.4.11. Please help! I dont know what to do. Thank you.

No they aren't. .dmg is a disk image. These often contain applications (that can be dragged elsewhere) or installers. Files for use with the main Apple Installer are either .pkg (package) or .mpkg (multi-package, includes multiple pkg installer files).

Installer.app should be in /Applications/Utilities. If it is not then you need to get a copy of the install DVD and either do a fresh OS install or use something (Pacifist is good) to get just the application you need.

Apple will supply new system install/restore DVDs for a reasonable price: call them. Or go to your local Apple Store (if you have one) and see if a Genius can help you out with a DVD...
