Help - iPhone 3G is frozen

My iPhone is stuck on the lock screen where it shows the time and the Earth. Holding down the button on top doesn't do anything. What can I do, besides waiting for the battery to run out?

Hold both the top button and the bottom circular button together till it reboots.
