Okay so recently [like a week ago], I've notice that my 2nd Gen [8GB] iPod Touch battery has been draining very quickly without me using it. It never did this before and I'm not sure what the problem is. I have no idea if it is still under warranty because my grandfather gave it to me as a Christmas gift. Should I take it to the Apple store and let them look at it? Or is this normal?

It is currently running iOS4. Should I update to the current version? Could that be the problem? Any answers would be very appreciated!

Well if it was Christmas 2009 then it should be under warranty, and if anything your battery is dying for good.

A lot of people reported battery issues when they updated from 3.X.X to 4.0 and restored using their 3.X.X backup, I would suggest updating to 4.0.2 and then set up as a new device rather than restoring from backup.

Before you quit using it for a while quit all apps running under multitasking. Tap the home button twice. Touch and hold any icon until it wiggles. Touch the "-" on the apps until they are all gone. Touch the screen above to close the window.

There are programs, I believe, that misbehave when left "running" in the background. You can narrow down the offender through trial and error. I'm presuming, of course, that you have notifications and bluetooth off.

This is very disappointing. I figure out a way to make the battery slow down with the decreasing %age of battery life. But that pretty much require me to use Airport mode when I'm not using it or only listening to music. Which defeats the purpose of the iPod touch. But I'll deal with it until Apple fix the problem.

Thanks for the help guys! Really appreciate it. :]
