So there is an ios 14.0.1 update but i keep getting 'Unable to check for update' message.
but I have an Update now tab available - but when i click on it i then get 'Unable to install update' message.....help has anyone got any advice? apart from move to Samsung.....

I don’t understand the link between the title of the thread and the content.
Are you saying that the problem stems from back Wi-Fi reception?
What makes you think that?

Temporary update problems could be caused by many factors.
Quite possibly there is a temporary problem with the Apple servers.
So, I would suggest switching off your device and restart. If that doesn’t work, just wait until tomorrow. If you still have the same problem tomorrow, I would do a restore from backup.

I've had this with previous updates. Few things, Apple servers as mentioned COULD be down, it happens.
You can try and restart the phone, or turn off your WiFi on the phone, turn it back on (wait a minute) then try to download - install the latest update again

Oh boy, you've gone from a probable temporary issue to throwing your phone away and buying a Samsung...

Sounds like you should get that Samsung ASAP if that's how you really feel...

wifi bars are showing but servers not responding - think its something to do the latest iOS update. it's now offering me 14.0.1 but phone can't get online thru wifi or 4G. I've reset phone and network settings. Also having issues with bluetooth so can't hotspot thru anyone else..

don't really want to but feel frustrated that i've invested so much money with apple so far it's just frustrating that they release updates that cause issues.

You say that but there's no actual evidence of such. I took my 7+ to 14.0 on release day, then did 14.0.1 the same day it came out. Zero issues apart from a sporadic problem with the Ape Watch app that I feel were simply due to a version mismatch and was gone the next day after I updated my new Series 6.

Download over cellular
Check new wifi settings
Reboot modem
Check router for new firmware
Reboot phone

I like having extra phones as backup, test ios beta, to see if Android or Apple both have issue. I would never have just one phone / platform.

PS: the public release beta phase for ios usually sees 8 updates in first 3 months and safe to say March will see all the links ironed out. Especially with the new phone line.

S20 FE or there's $200 off on S20 or Note 20 line.

My issue went a bit further. Before the update, I got the "searching for service" then the popup to update. So I update thinking nothing of it and now I am stuck on the update screen... now recovery! I hope Apple's servers is the issue and it's fixed tomorrow.

Try turning off private address in your WiFi menu in the iPhone.
