HELP!! jailbroken 3gs still using 4.0 and firmware 05.13.04

Use Redsn0w, PwnageTool or SnowBreeze. Create a custom firmware for iOS 5.1.1 and upgrade.

if i upgrade, will it change my firmware and not allow me to UNLOCK the device? i need to keep it unlocked.

first backup your SHSH for 4.0.

then use sn0wbreeze or redsn0w to create a custom IPSW to restore to 5.1.1. this will preserve your baseband you need for your unlock in the process. 🙂
