Hello,

My father just got this laptop a couple of months ago and he's been having a lot of problems with it. It's the touchbar pro. Chrome suddenly starts lagging, especially while he's playing videos, and he has to do a full restart because the whole system freezes up. Now today, he was trying to put together a powerpoint presentation and it was lagging while he cropped and placed pictures. When he played the slideshow, the screen would start flickering - going black and coming back on - on its own and faster when he moved the mouse. Had to restart to fix it.

Does anyone know what's wrong/ what can be done to make this computer less frustrating!

Reinstall macOS.

I agree. While you could troubleshoot individual components, it seems likely this is going to be the simplest solution. There are several options for backing up and restoring your files, such as using TimeMachine. In the case of the Apps that are having issues, I would recommend reinstalling them manually after the OS wipe.

I would also recommend running Apple Diagnostics to ensure that there are no hardware issues.

Finally, before doing the two above, have you ran First Aid on the drive using Disk Utility?
