    help!

my daughter is driving up a wall!

she has a iPod, generation prior to the touch, and she needs to get more music on it.

let me digress. i've uploaded music to this iPod with her PC desktop. but i had to reformat her desktop since it was infected, so i essentially lost all of her music. so backing up her iTunes is not possible.

so she wants to keep her current music in her iPod and ADD more music to it. obviously, i would have to install the latest version of iTunes.

so how can i do this w/o losing her current music in her iPod?!

sorry, we leave for vacation in a few hrs so i'm trying to pack and deal with this at the same time.

    thanks in advance guys!

connect her ipod to your computer, and in itunes when you are on the ipod screen click manually manage music and videos.

p.s. what is the ipod gen prior to the touch? there is a ipod touch 1st gen and second gen...

You lost all her music off her windows pc right?
Will you be plugging said iPod back into her windows pc? If so, you just need to buy/add more music to iTunes (yes the latest version would work) but before you do all that, it sounds to me like you have the iPod that can mount like a disk drive. If so, you want to copy the music from the iPod to your Windows machine. To do this check out this article.

Then install iTunes and add that music to the library. Then add more music whether you buy it, or take it from a kitten or whatever, you need to add whatever music she wants to take. Then reload the ipod.

Am I making sense? I hope so.

On a side note, you're a rockin' dad to go through this just so she can ADD more music to her iPod that already has music! I'd make her listen to whatever is on the iPod and deal with this when I got home.

He said prior to the touch so basically it'd be 5.5 I guess. The touch doesn't mount like a disk drive afaik. Also, if he reloads iTunes, then iTunes would assume it's an iPod that was once associated with another library and it'll want to erase what is on the iPod. To be safe you have to copy the music from the iPod first. I wouldn't try it any other way.

her iPod is the one non-touch prior to the touch.

plenty of sense! i just need her to finishing packing, so i can get into her "war zone" she calls a room to get access to her pc.

so if i understand correctly, i should install iTunes AFTER i've copied her music from her iPod ala disk drive.

    thanks again sweetie!

It does not matter when you install iTunes, but to play it safe and to ensure it doesn't automatically launch when you connect the iPod, I think I would attempt to mount the iPod first. Now, you may need to install iTunes to enable disk mode. I apologize, but I am having trouble remembering which comes first really. Rest assured, iTunes in all it's asshat ways won't just erase crap, not even on windows.

So if you can't mount the drive using whatever windows software you would use to copy iPod to PC, then load up iTunes and enable disk mode.

If you need more help just lemme know. It'll all come to me because I've done this before when I went from windows to mac and lost my music from my hard drive.

Calm down tiger lily. I am certain he meant nothing. A father trying to round up his camp to go on vacation while his children find some humor in whining about their stupid iPod is probably just grateful a person like me didn't turn around and offer some smart ass comment such as "stick her in a closet and take me with you instead".
Just sayin' is all. Oh and I am sweet when I want to be so he's not exactly telling lies.

Not offended at all, just having some fun. A drink is all ways appreciated, stroking is not.

Sarcasm is not your strong suit.
    ;)

Well, we're just waiting for the poor guy to go into the depths of his daughter's room to fix her iPod.

ok, i've managed to get through the war zone and i'm copying the music from the unhidden folder "music".

question - w/i the music folder, there are 49 folders - F00 TO F49, with several songs in each although i'm copying the complete folder, do i need to take out the songs from each folder and get it into one main folder?

    kindly advise.
