Hi all.

I currently use a MBP which is soon to celebrate its 4th birthday. I was hanging on to see what goodies the new releases had but in all honesty, the retina display isn't enough to tempt me to buy the new version..

So, I'm looking to buy a standard 15in mbp but really wanted to upgrade the ram and drive. could anyone point me in the right directions (links very welcome) to sources in the uk for both ram (can I upgrade to 16gb max?) and SSD, maybe a 512gb.

I think the standard machine with Ethernet and optical, complete with this upgrade would be just fine for my needs .

thanks in advance.

OK.. here is my decision and also questions that i need some help with please.

I use the MBP for work. I run windows 7 on parallels, mostly in coherence mode currently on my duo core 2.66 Ghz with 4gb of 1067mhz ram. I tend not to use the screen and use an external monitor. I do have some issues with speed, hence the update idea but in general i just want a newer machine. I don't run anything too ambitious in terms of s/w. I think the mostly processor intensive task I run is corel draw.. so in general, normal office stuff etc, Sage 200..
I am concerned about some of the threads I've read about MS / MSoffice looking blurred on the new retina display. Would that translate to my larger display?

I'm thinking of ordering the 15 inch 2.6ghz MBP + High res screen (not retina) as standard config from Apple store. Price is GBP1879.01 inc vat (20%)

Question 1. It comes as standard with a 750gb hd. I want to add a 512gb SSD to this machine (see lower down), so would it be wise to upgrade the drive to say a 128gb SSD from Apple for another GBP80? making the cost GBP1959.01

Question 2. Is the MBP able to have two SSD drives?

Question 3. A high res screen costs another GBP80. Is it worth it? what do i gain in terms of specs?

Im looking here for Ram and SSD upgrades
http://www.crucial.com/uk/store/lis... 2.6GHz Intel Core i7 (15-inch DDR3) Mid-2012

I want to upgrade the ram to 16gb and ideally an SSD drive of 512gb also.

Question 4. Does anyone have any other sources for this product in the UK please?

Question 5. Are all SSD's the same? What sort of access speeds etc should I be aiming for?

Last question....

Question 6. How easy are these items to fit? Any links that would help me please?

Total cost of this, 15inch 2.6ghz MBP + High res screen.
128gb SSd
512gb SSd
16gb 1600mhz ram
GBP2420.56

If I went retina route, cost would be GBP2458.99 (only 512gb SSD)

not a lot in it, yes i can upgrade the standard machine in 3 years time.. but in all honesty, i probably wouldn't....... your thoughts please have ai missd anything.

Thanks all for any answers i get.
