Ok guys I have a 2 year old macbook here. 2Ghz 1GB of RAM and running Tiger. The computer was recently repaired, new case that changes the feeling of weight placement and also a new harddrive. This was not done at the Apple store but the computer is under apple care so everything was free.
After he reinstalled the OS system update will only show updates up to 10.4.6 and firefox/safari both shut down when trying to log into facebook for no apparent reason.
I'm kind of confused why the computer is doing this, I suggested my friend who owns it buy leopard to help with some of the bugs she's having but there is only 1GB of RAM will it still run ok?

Well, before considering upgrading to Leopard, you should have your friend download the OS X 10.4.11 combo update from www.apple.com/support/downloads. Make sure she gets the one for the Intel processor machine not the PPC systems. Then try running the automated updates again for Safari and the other bundled applications to see if its still hanging when she visits Facebook. If she's still considering upgrading to Leopard, she should either do a clean erase & install after backing up her data or perform an upgrade installation ONLY after getting to 10.4.11. 512 MB is the minimum RAM required for Leopard, so 1 GB should be more than enough.
