It suddenly happened. I am using the setup for over a year now with no problems. Suddenly after cleaning my display with a dry cloth my LG ultrafine 4k powercable popped out and since then, when I connect the USB cable to my MacBook pro 13" Touch Bar 2017 the macbook screen goes black and almost everything freezes. The LG also has no picture. Unplugging reverses the effect. I have absolutely now idea what causes this. You think I broke my LG ? I don't know where to look for solutions next. Its freaking annoying that the LG doesn't even have one single button for me to push frenetically until problem is solved. 🙁

I assume you’ve tried the following:

* unplug the LG ultrafine, wait, plug it back in and try again.
* borrow another MacBook or MacBook Pro / cable and try to see if the problem can be narrowed down to the LG, your MBP, or the cable.

Chances are, the issue is with your cable, as that tends to be the component most prone to failure.

Just to give an update on the matter. LG, Apple and me troubleshooted and came to the result that the LG UltraFine 4k needs repairs. Funny thing, nobody wants to repair it. I bought it in the UK over eBay and LG support Sweden points to LG support UK and LG support UK points to my eBay seller. They all tell me that they can't help me with my problem. Now I own a 750€ black brick (plus all the usb c cables I bought for the dock) that is useless. I would even pay for it but nobody wants to repair it. You think I am crazy when I say this is partly apples fault? I would have never bought an LG device if apple wouldn't have suggested it. I am sad and don't know what to do.
