I have a Macbook Pro that will not boot. When it's turned on, it stays on the grey screen (with the spinning circle) and it will not go any further. Starting in safe mode doesn't get me anywhere and I do not have the startup disc for the Macbook - are there any solutions available to resolve this problem without the use of the startup disc?

Even without knowing the year and model, you likely have a failing hard drive.

Turn off the machine completely, power it on and immediately press and hold cmd + v. Look for ANYTHING that says disk I/O error. If you see one, time for a new drive. Since you don't have a disk or anything to fix your machine, take it to an AASP as Apple will do nothing to help you in regards to data, that is, unless you have a time machine.
