I bought a new MBP over the phone from Apple. I'm taking it to Australia to give to my mother. I just went to open the box (it arrived a week ago) and saw that it has previously been opened, and a new sticker put over it!

Is this something to be concerned about? I have only a couple of hours in which I could visit an Apple store tomorrow morning!

If it worries you that much, you could just go in to the Apple Store and have them exchange it for you. They shouldn't hassle you too much and if it is a stock configuration, more likely than not it will be in stock.

I don't know whether it is something to worry about or not... having last minute packing anxieties, I think! THe sticker looks just like the one beneath it. Woudl it be because I ordered a matte screen?
