See post #18 for the answer.

Also copy/Users/~(Home)/Library/Preferences/com.apple.iTunes.plist, com.apple.iTunesHelper.plist, com.apple.iTunes.eq.plist.

It usually isn't recommended to copy over prefs because they are small files which can be easily damaged but it can't hurt to back them up.

I think it's easier just to copy the iTunes library than burn a backup with iTunes. I don't trust that as much as having everything in the iTunes library folder.

Well this thread has been a godsend and answered a lot of my questions as the only upgrade I've performed on my mac was from panther to tiger. I'm definitely going to do the clean and install but I just have one possibly trivial question.

I've backed up using SuperDuper and all is well and good, however will my app library data be retained, such as iTunes ratings, iCal appointments, bookmarks etc? I'm most concerned with Mail.app, will all of my messages be retained, I know I can redownload via POP, but I do have some emails on there that are no longer stored on my gmail account, only locally on Mail.app.

Yes, when you migrate using Setup Assistant everything should be ported over from your clone. Also remember, that's why you have a full backup. Worst case scenario is that you go and get any item/s from your clone if there are any issues :)

Thanks for the response, really looking forward to getting Leopard now!!

Before I installed Leopard, my harddrive had about 223GB free, but post install, it has like 205GB free. Is there a folder somewhere that I need to trash containing old tiger stuff not neeeded?

what gives?

What type of install do you do? If it was an archive & install, there should be a folder called, "Previous System" on the root level of your drive.

If not maybe you dragged something along. Download and run WhatSize to find what's hogging the space.

Also, did you enable Time Machine and where are you storing its backups? Actually, I think it's enabled by default...

EDIT: I also notice in the tech specs that the minimum space requirement for a basic install has tripled to 9GB. For Tiger it was 3+ GB for a basic. So that accounts for some.
