Greetings!

I currently have an M1 Air with 8 GB of Ram, 8 Core GPU, and 512 GB SSD.

However, my mother offered a deal with me. She would buy me a new M2 MacBook Air if I gave her my M1 MacBook Air.

Im obviously going to go for 512 GB (Because of SSDGate)
But I am unsure if I should go for 1 TB of Storage, or 16 GB of Ram.

Here is a description on what I do with my M1 MacBook Air:
  • Edit Apple related content in Final Cut Pro
    • Lagging quite a bit as my videos get better.
  • Main school laptop (Use Google Classroom)
  • Live Streaming
  • Hoping to get into Xcode development
  • Dual boot Beta and smooth release
Here is my storage with my Render Files deleted:

I also only got full Ram once, and that is when I have not rebooted my Mac in Monterey 12.1

So it is either 1 TB of Storage with 8 GB of Ram, or 512 GB of Storage with 16 GB of Ram.

I am looking to futureproof my Mac to likely when M2 drops support or streaming and editing gets very bad or there is a new standard in video quality that I cannot do or if the machine breaks.

If you need more info, that would be great!

Thanks in advance!

512gb and 16gb ram for sure. You seem to have lots of storage left, and worst case, if you need to expand your storage, you can attach an external drive, but you can't add anymore ram down the road.

The ram will be the best thing to help you future proof your machine down the road and help maintain its performance.

I think the best configuration for you to get would be the 8 core GPU, 512gb ssd, and 16gb ram.

Ram is more important than storage so even the slower 256gb ssd and 16gb ram would be better than 8gb ram.
