GDDR3 vs GDDR5
Technically his VRAM is out of date...not what I was trying to say but that works too lol

Yes, I understood the amount of VRAM is out of date. Clearly 256 Mb wasn't enough.

Double thumbs up, dude!!!

Now I'm just jealous because I want an SSD :(

Best way to go is SSD + optibay, IMO. OS X, apps, documents, photos on the SSD, everything else on HDD through symlinks.

That was one reason I wanted a current unibody MBP. Powerful enough, classic design, and a nice place for my optibay. I'm sure the "residigned" 2012 model isn't going to cut it for 2 hdd...

Recently I bought a cheap (80€) Kingston V+100 96 Gb for my wife PC from amazon.co.uk.

Best upgrade you can do on a computer nowadays.

Definitely a worthy upgrade... ;) Twice as fast...

Hey OP, what kind of SSD do you have? And how does it perform in the 17"?

As I use Boot Camp with Windows 7, even using Optibay, I think I'd need a 256GB SSD, which at the moment are just too expensive for me to justify.

As SSDs are now saturating SATA 3 bandwidth, I'm hoping the race to the top in speed will shift to a race to the bottom in price over the next few months :)

...Yeah ok, but one can dream :p

I have one Crucial m4 128 Gb + one WD scorpio black 750 Gb.
It performs great, I'm getting the advertised read/write speed, and no signs of hang ups/beachballing.
