Which watch do you guys recommend? I work as a professional in the IT world, and I wanted everyones opinions on this. Sport, or SS? What are the negatives and positives between each of the watches?

I just left the Android camp to IOS and sold my Gear S2. :)

Been looking at that one for sure. Definitely like the way it looks. Just hard to decide between it and the Silver SS. Can't fix the black one though if it gets scratched.

Extremely hard to scratch.

I am an IT professional and I have the Space Black. If you too purchase the Space Black, we will not only be brothers of IT, but brothers of Space Black ;)

IT Professional would want the Space Black SS or regular SS - The advantage of the SS would be that on sale it is typically less than the Black and the regular SS goes with any color band which is nice when you wear Brown or tans.

I have the regular SS but I definitely wouldn't mind picking up a Space Black SS - I have a sport for testing. I have about 12 bands and they all match the SS but about 4 would look bad with the Space Black.

If they are the same price - today I would get a Space Black. :)

Yeah, thinking about picking up one on Swappa if I see a good deal pop up. I like the idea of more bands with on the SS instead of the Space Black SS. But the look of the Space Black is really drooling......

You are too funny! :p

Seriously though. The Space Black is very durable. If you check out this query, and look at the threads about durability or scratching, you'll see a lot of people talking about it:

Just as another example, I reached past a server mount a few months ago and my watch brushed up against the metal corner. I was concerned I was going to see a scratch there, but when I pulled my arm back and checked, nothing. I accidentally brushed my leg up against the same server mount corner yesterday and I was bleeding a little. I read one other post where somebody actually fell off a ladder and slammed the watch into it in the process. Nothing happened to the watch, but the ladder actually had a black mark on it.

It can take a lot. You just need to decide if you like the look. I was torn between the regular steel and the black steel at one point too. The look of the black steel just looks so much better to me. The bezel actually blends in with the screen. I still say pictures don't do the thing justice. When you actually first see it in front of you, it's really a "wow" moment.

Also, you may just have to do a little more work to find bands that don't have black connectors. It's really only an issue with leather bands, but there are tons of great leather bands on easy that overcome this.

The technical specifications are identical. IT guys should choose the minimum cost for cosmetic items. Therefore you should get the sport. If you said you were a fashion designer, then the obvious choice would be SS

Be sure that you absolutely want a watch.

I've seen too many people with burnt fingers who bought the Apple Watch, only to regret their purchase a few months later.

Are you sure an iPhone doesn't fulfil your needs?

Thanks. I will say my seiko doesn't look as good as it did with my line of work so if the apple watch took that abuse it should do better.

I'm an IT professional as well, and I can say from casual observation that the Space Black, or Space Gray Sport, appear to be the most popular choices for IT staff. They also tend to prefer black bands in any material. It's a very tactical look.

I'm an oddball (among IT) in that I prefer the SS to all other Apple Watches. I have the silver aluminum AWS, but my next one will be the SS. I just like the bit of contrast, and I think silver and SS go better with a wide variety of bands. My AWS still looks great almost a year into daily wear.

SS silver for me every time. I prefer the look and the way it works with other straps. I have a third party black link bracelet and it contrasts well (matches the black screen) with the silver case in between.

However, it does seem like IT types gravitate to the SS black with black band or bracelet. Maybe they're paid too much

I would definitely recommend the SS model. I've had both the SS and Sport models. The Sport looks great, however the screen scratches easily. The SS looks fantastic and has the sapphire screen. The stainless will see a bit of swirl marks over time but thats typical after normal daily wear. I currently own the silver model now but just purchased the black SS model on eBay today...I'll give you an update once I receive it :)

Im a programmer and as an IT guy we are on a computer 24/7 the ss is very heavyyy for me... get the sport put a screen cover and be done with it.. or buy a case and people wont even know what watch u have

Interesting. I do like the contrast look of the SS vs the space black ss. With different bands as well. Man, such a hard decision. It will definitely be an SS, but which one is the question.

If you are going to want to buy multiple bands (there are some excellent third party options that don't cost nearly as much as Apple's bands), then consider what styles/colors and how they will look with the SS vs the SB. You can usually find photos of both combinations. It's all subjective in the end, so go with what you think looks best!

I started out with a Space Grey Sport and upgraded to the SS. For me, the SS is much more versatile since there seem to be more band options that go with this model. Don't get me wrong, the SB is very sleek and you do have band options, just not as many as you would have on the SS. It's your decision, take you time and get what you think is best for you.

Here's a breakdown for you

Pros: Light weight
Cons: scratches cannot be polished/buffed out.

Stainless Model:
Material: Stainless steel
Pros: scratches can be buffed/polished out.
Cons: heavier than the sport model (I prefer heavy myself)

Glass:

Sport Model
Material: ionX (Apple's fancy name for Gorilla Glass)
Pros: Shatter resistant
Cons: not as scratch resistant

Stainless Model
Material: Sapphire Crystal (what most expensive watches use)
Pros: Scratch resistant
Cons: not as shatter resistant

Undercasing:

Sport Model: none
Stainless Model: Ceramic Coating to reduce wear and tear.

For me, it's just the look. I've had several SS watches. I thought I would get the regular SS this time too, but then I found out about the Black SS and I just had to have it.

Struggled whether to buy the sport or SS, went with black SS and returned it for regular SS with black leather band, surprisingly I purchased a stone colored sport band and the combo looks awesome, I rarely use the leather band. Spouse has same but with bright white band and it looks super sharp.

Skip the aluminum sport watch, they look cheap compared to the SS
