I will be picking up a MBP in the next week or so. (My first mac)

I want to convert all my dads home videos into dvds to give as a gift to my parents.

My dad has home video on VHS, mini DV, and something inbetween those two sizes that can fit inside a vhs tape(?).

What would be the best (easiest/cheapest) solution?

Thank you!

If he has mini DV tapes, I'm assuming he has a mini DV camcorder? If so, you can plug it right into any Mac and import DV video to iMovie with a Firewire cable. Also, many DV camcorders have a DV conversion mode so you can plug in other devices like VCRs and import analog video into iMovie. If the DV camcorder doesn't support that, you can pick up a firewire DV converter that'll do the job. I use a DAC-200 that works great.

The "something inbetween that fits inside a VHS tape" is probably VHS-C.
