I have this on one of my Macs, it works quite well; no dongle required.

but I'm also weird, I love my magic mouse, it took me a month to get used to it, but now, it's just awesome. :D

What do you like so much about it? There are times when I wished I had a mouse, however, it's so convenient to just use the trackpad you know?

How is the tracking and all of the extra settings come from the mouse itself right? I'd be pairing with a black MacBook and I won't want to miss out on any features :/

I just got my 27 inch imac and came from over 20 yrs of pc side of life, so far loving it but I am using windows in bootcamp quite a bit for smaller programs I haven't found alternatives for yet.

I got the magicpad thing like it and the extras it gives on mac side but would sorta like the old fashioned mouse to the side here too, usb ports are already all full (2 hd, iphone, keyboard) so i'd like to find something bluetooth that will work on the mac but also on the windows side of the mac where I plan to use it the most.

I have large hands so full size is a big thing... has anyone found a good full sized bluetooth mouse yet that works on both the mac and windows side of things?

Eventually I might get the hang of the trackpad thing here for windows but I seem to wanna reach for the mouse a lot still...

Wish my full sized apple keyboard with numberpad was wireless too (didn't realize that when i ordered it but wanted the full number pad)...

Bill :)

Razer Orochi. It's kind of small (that's its only caveat, if you have HUGE hands it isn't as great) but it's really prescise, gaming-quality, it has a nice bunch of buttons and it works great with my Macs, wired and wireless.

I was looking for this exact kind of mouse a few years ago myself. The closest I ever came to finding it was the MX5500 as someone else suggested.

I found it a little smaller and narrower than I expected it to be (based on the picture), but it was doable.

I used it for maybe a year and a half, and finally just recently needed a new keyboard, so I decided to get a Logitech with the Unifying symbol, and then got a *real* full-sized mouse, the Logitech MX Revolution.

No, it's not Bluetooth, but I've never had a more comfortable mouse, and thanks to the Unifying software, I only need one USB port for both the mouse *and* keyboard.

Bluetooth is bluetooth...as long as your machine includes it, you don't need a dongle.

That isn't always true. it should be but isn't. I know of at least one Microsoft bluetooth mouse that required Microsoft's bluetooth dongle and would not work with anything else.
Too bad about the Magic Mouse. I want to like it but its way too low profile.

Targus mouse

Hi, I'm in the same situation as you, I think the Magic Mouse is a bit expensive and I don't think I need al the multi-touch features that I have on the trackpad. And getting an USED Mighty Mouse doesn't seem like a good idea...

I searched a lot and the best I could find is the Targus Bluetooth(R) Laser Mouse for Mac(R) AMB08. I think it looks great, it's more precise, it has a 4-way scroll as well, customizable buttons and it's built for Mac! It goes for $35,99 (http://www.targus.com/us/productdetail.aspx?sku=AMB08US), which is cheaper that the MM and it's brand new. I think I'm gonna get one this weekend, so if I do I'll let you know how good is it.

I hope this helps and you can check out my post, there are some pretty good replies there (https://forums.macrumors.com/showthre...825&).

Cheers.

I guess I have huge hands because it is too small for me and was sent back. Very responsive though. They do use a silly amount of packaging for these things.

They didn't have the Targus in stock at my local store, but they had the Logitech V470, also bluetooth. I'm considering it as well...

I bought the Logitech 5500 MX (mouse and keyboard) - because I wanted the "Bluetooth" version.

what's the point in having to use another "dongle-like" device?

I have both the "MX revolution" bluetooth.... and the MX Performance mouse

both these mice work straight out of the box - nothing needed to install.... scrolling, left button, right button, middle click, and another button on the side activates expose (even in OS X Lion)

Differences :

1. the MX Performance mouse is the current version of the "MX series" available now.... it has a rechargeable "AA" battery - which can also take a standard AA battery. In addition, this mouse can be charged and used with a mini-usb to usb cable (included)
- it uses a rf-like signal to communicate with the mac... it is a low-profile dongle...which barely sticks out of the usb port
-other: metallic outline on the case...nicer looking , has a great "hidden" button under the thumb pad (not present on the MX revolution)

2. the MX Revolution (bluetooth version) + 5500 keyboard :
I didnt use the keyboard - looks like a pos in my opinion. I bought the combo from amazon only so i could get my hands on the bluetooth mouse
- it recharges via a cradle ... no extra batteries, or ability to use an "AA" battery. so you are tied to the cradle to charge it
- it is lower profile... and slimmer than the MX Performance
- it also has a "thumb dial" - but I have not programmed it yet to wor
- works directly with mac bluetooth setup/profiles - no issues (as stated above)
- the wheel can alternate between "free-spinning" mode and a resistance-notch mode .... (as does the MX Performance).... however, the MX Performance uses a really cheap mechanical button....versus the smoother version in the Revolution)

the MX Performance works with the Logitech Center - but I didnt install it to test it out. I did try to install the Logitech Center with the MX Revolution - but it doesnt "see" the bluetooth device.

Next steps.... going to try Controllermate (updated for lion and has MX Revolution profiles).... or USB Overdrive - these are both consistent with working (and keeping) functions set (from what I have read on the internet)... in addition....there is a natural scrolling mode that can only be enabled via terminal command - apparently this only works with the non-bluetooth version of the mouse... a search should find this easily.

Hope this helps others.

Would love to hear people's experiences with Controllermate vs USB Overdrive
