Built-in iSight camera
Illuminated keyboard
9400m-9600 512mb
last gen...for $1599

or

2.53ghz
15.4-inch LED-backlit glossy widescreen display
4GB memory
250GB hard drive
8x SuperDrive (DVD±R DL/DVD±RW/CD-RW)
SD card slot
Built-in 7-hour battery
NVIDIA GeForce 9400M graphics
Illuminated keyboard
for $1449.....

My first reaction is to get the last gen macbook pro, more easily upgradable and seems as though you get more for the money....but just wondering peoples thoughts here...

Well the biggest difference between them will be the lack of 9600 on the current gen, but the current gen having the 7 hour battery. So if your wife will need the GPU, but not the battery, go with the last gen, if vice-versa, go with the current gen.

if she dosent need the graphics card for anything, then yes latest gen is ur answer....and battery is wayyyyyyyyyy better than the late 2008 model

Also, as far as upgradability is concerned, swapping the harddrive on the unibody is MUCH easier.

I'm going to be sexist and assume your wife won't do any gaming.
The 9400m should suffice, and the extra battery is a godsend.

I'm going to be rude and assume your wife doesn't know jack about computers.

I say this since you're the one asking for opinions and not her, I assume that she doesn't care what CPU it has or how many GB the hard drive has, as long as "it just works", eh?

Unless she needs some massive video-crunching, WOW-fest power, definitely go with the current gen. Like the above post said, the battery is AMAZING. If your wife notices anything, she'll notice how long the battery lasts. I thought I'd need/use the 9600M GT a lot, but I never switch it on

Edit: and put the money you save towards extra applecare ;)

@kryptonianjorel I think you mistook t3hford as the OP. He was not the OP, therefore he was not commenting on his wife, but the wife of the poster. The poster never made that kind of remark.

No, I didnt. T3hford said he was going to be sexist and assume the OP's wife wouldn't game. I took that and said I was going to be rude, assuming the OP's wife doesn't know jack about computers.

what about a 13 inch model?

Most women prefer smaller machines. I know my gf likes my 15 inch MBP, but says if she was buying one, she would go for the 13 inch.

Who says size matters! LOL!

well, her first macbook was a 13" macbook, but she had a 17" pro and loved it and i tried to talk her into a 13" but she wasnt having it, it was all i could do to talk her into a 15"

I'd also go for the last-gen model. The gfx card, the extra proc power, larger HD and the ec slot definitely outweigh a few extra battery hours..

Depends what she is using it for I guess. She may not need all those things and the extra portability the battery life gives her might be a big factor. I guess we would need to know what she uses it for before we can really provide a solid opinion.

On first look, I'd go for the newer generation. Just me though.
