I had a 2015 model of MacBook Pro and did a backup. Now I wish to restore it to the new one. I set a user and then launched the Migration Assistant. I selected the user data, old profile, other files and leave unselected checkbox "system settings".

After that I have an old user folder, but can not enter inside (do not heave a permission and can not change it in the "Get Info").

Ok, I launched again the Migration Assistant and selected "system preferences", but still have no old profile in settings and can not get an access to the old user folders.

Fixed: Followed this guide https://support.apple.com/kb/PH25515?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US

Did you boot into the recovery system? You can't restore your home folder if you booted your mac normally.

No, I did not. I have to do this? But as I already said I used a Time Machine feature, so it restored automatically with reboot, etc.

Ok, so I'm not sure how to use MacRumors as I was going to try to post a new question but instructions said find a similar thread and ask from there.
Essentially my mid-2012 MacBook Pro HD will not boot up. Instead of restoring from TM on the original HD thereby taking a chance of destroying all original data, I installed anothe HD into my MacBook Pro and am trying to to do a TM restore from a 2tb Seagate which I have "verified" using Disk Utility as being good.
However, TM or something else will not allow my restore to succeed. All it says is something like "Restore has failed. Restart and try again". I have spent countless hours working with Apple Care techs and they are stumped.
Eventually, I installed Mountain Lion via network and was able to "migrate" data to the new HD. After messing around a bit, I found migration is very limited and really only good for data. When I try to open apps or programs, which have a "?" as the icon, it says my OS is too old. Fine. So then I tried to install High Sierra but that never seemed to install for some reason. It went though the entire install process but no High Sierra anywhere to be found.
I did, for kicks, attempt to restore the new info I had after installing High Sierra and the restore worked fine. Restore will not work with any of my original back up's from my original HD. Even the first back up won't restore.
So, has anyone experienced this and have you found a solution?
Or, has anyone experienced bott up problems and was able to fix it?
