It's driving me crazy, no of course I won't really throw it out of the window but constantly having to go back and correct when it changes my words to "I’magine", "I’mage", "I’mmediately" etc etc is making me use it less and less in favour of my Windows notebook that just lets me type what I want to type.

My iphone doesn't do this so I don't get why my Air does or how to stop it.. anyone? Please?

Ok I unchecked all that but it's still doing it as you can see :-(

That is not a good example because with just the letters im, it will suggest the following I'm, which is the correct syntax for those two letters. What you need to do is type words such as 'imagine','image' and 'immediately', then screenshot it and show us what is happening.

From my experiences, it will only display the word 'image' as I'mage if there is a long delay in typing the letters after im

reseting the pram might do the trick, and cleaning out the keys itself with air or qTip(be careful tho)
I'm having trouble typing in Japanese while i have my keyboard set to Can Englsih since monday
that could be another problem having an alt language, and i might delete the Japanese option.

Where are you seeing this problem? If it's just in Safari, there's a separate setting for that. I had the same problem when I got a new Mac this summer and had to use Google to figure it out! See this

Don’t throw it out the window... Just erase it then send it my way 😎

When I type anything startin with I and M very quickly it will always wrongly change it to I’mac, I’mmaterial etc etc

I’m using Edge as my main browser, that also has a "correct as you type" option which I have turned off but still it keeps doing it!!

Once those are added to your dictionary, it will keep suggesting them. You can remove them from your dictionary by following guidance in this article.

I am not sure that is the cause as when I make up nonsense words starting with I and M that wouldnt be in the dictionary it still does it, eg I’mahsye, I’mposg, I’meps

It doesn't do any USEFUL corrections, like it wont add the apostrophe for me in wont cant dont shouldnt etc, but happily sticks it into I'moral goddammit 😂

Is there really no solution for this? Is my Air faulty? It's way out of warranty so I don't see what options I have to fix other than to get rid...?

Are you running any 3rd party software that could be intercepting and correcting your typed text? I know apps like TextExpander can do that kind of thing. Also, look at the keyboard settings for any text replacement items...

Stupid question maybe, but… you don't have a text replacement set up to automatically replace im by I'm (in the Keyboard > Text control panel), do you ?
Hi,

Yes, I do actually, but in that table are alllll the (many) text replacements from my iPhone, so if I remove it from there then my iPhone stops correcting "im" to "I’m" you see... I want the iPhone to carry on doing it correctly, which it does, it doesnt correct words like I’magination, it's just this fracken laptop that does that!

Oh… So I’m afraid the problem comes from here.
I don’t have this text replacement set up but my iPhone and iPad properly autocorrect ”im“ into “I’m” (it just did! 😊). So I would suggest removing this particular text replacement and check if your iPhone continues to properly autocorrect “im“ into “I’m”. Or maybe you already did it?
Another possible solution, if it doesn’t do it already, is to teach autocorrect on the iPhone to replace “im” with “I’m” (type and correct until autocorrect finally learns it and adds it to its dictionary).

Maybe on iOS autocorrect engages first then text replacement, but on macOS it’s the opposite, hence causing the problem you encounter.

I hope this can help you…

Ima gonna see if mina doesa that too. (It only objected to that last error, which I had to force it to accept. Mina used to be a real word; now, only myna is.)
Well, Im satisfied. It doesn't. There was not even a suggested correction for that I-m combo, much less an automatic one.
I'm using Safari with Mojave, if that matters. (' actually typed that time)

Its gotta be a setting in Edge, seems to me.
Just now, mine didn't try to auto-correct "its", I presume because both with and without the ' it's correct; can be, that is. But, that last one did get corrected after I finished typing the word correct. (That was an awkward sentence because I wanted to test that.) It also added the ' for the contracted "does not" above when I left it out. So its doing it correctly, most of the time. Although it missed the one in the previous sentence, a red underline remained almost as long as it took to type about 3/4 of the next line.

So my Safari does not handle the issue perfectly. I hope this was enlightening.

You know, I honestly thought auto-correct and text replacement were different names for the same thing but I have deleted the text replacement entry for I'm/im (and yes it also deleted from iPhone) but the iPhone still corrects it to I'm and now the MacBook doesn't change image to I'mage any more!!!!!!!💘💘💘💘
