So one day I ran outside. Another I ran inside.

The outside day, I ran farther, faster, longer, and with a slightly higher avg heart rate.

Yet, according to the workout app, I burned more calories and active calories during the shorter, slower, easier indoor run.

Huh?

Not really certain, but the outdoor would include GPS if you brought your phone. Have you calibrated yet? The indoor run may have been an estimate if you haven't calibrated yet

My indoor runs dropped in distance once I calibrated an outdoor run.

I do not run indoors, but I have had no luck calibrating my Watch with multiple outdoor runs.

I have also found the Active calories are not accurate when you run without your phone. If the Watch thinks you ran 8 miles, it will calculate your Active calories as if you really ran that far, regardless of your actual mileage. In my case, the distance and calories are off by a factor of 1.3, which is quite a big difference.
