xp is secure but it's internet explorer's loopholes that make xp a crappy product.
Way off base man. XP is NOT secure, with or without IE. XP is flawed in the way it handles (or doesn't) permissions and LUA (least user access/acount). Anything can run and do anything. XP is flawed from the core.

Can't blame it all on IE.

Also, most of your viri and malware come straight from P2P networks. It's illegal and also very dangerous to your computer's health. It's even creeping into the bittorrent scene too. Just steer clear of P2P and keep BT to legal/official files and you should be ok.

lol 14 and your trying to save up for a $1000+ laptop? Here's a thought....GET A JOB! Heck even Mcd's you can pull down 400+ a month while going to school. I did it, of cource I spent all my scratch on CD's and Beer but that's beside the point.

lol that reminds me off the running joke I had with the programmers at one company I was the designer at. I'd change a simple PHP thing or a build a small flash app (like a clock or something equally simple) and be like "hey! I'm a programmer now! Just like all those folks who know a bit of HTML!"

It's definatly annoying for people who've taken a bit of HTML or Flash suddenly calling themselves designers.

**** u nerds. Lol I ran track and this is my first comment I believe. All of us are newds . And lil man, they are right. Save your money for other stuff, but if you really want an ibook, well then have some patience. Patience is a virtue that allows you to accomplish your dreams. Start by saving your money man. Save like a couple of months worth of cash. Save like half and then sell the Dell and ask your parents to help you out. In a couple ofm onths there should be refurbished ones which are youur best bet. As for the meantime man. Try and get some exercise, women love a man who takes care of himself. You don't have to a track star, but as long as you workout you should be fine. Don't let these guys hussle you. Start messing around with the progrmams in Windows. You are not a pro yet. I have wanted an ibook, so I got one. It costed me money. I wanted a powerbook, but it was too much money. There is no way I am going to video edit in this machinne yet. I want to video edit in a mac, but it is too expensive. So i edit on my pc, it does the job. I mean it has viruses, but whatever. As long as u take care of ur sh@@ it will run. You are still young man, get out, work. save money for an ibook then buy it. It is too easy to indulge in ur stuff. I have been on forums for like 5 months. It is ridiculous because I spend a lot of time reading stuff like this. I go to skool, but u have to know ur priorities. I love my ibook because when I watch movies they look so much better. But I bought it so that I can have a work horse for skool and to spend time with my gf. Women love attention and so do we. Every moment that you spend with them is wodnerful. Ibook comes in handy. My battery can easily outlast my gf's. I have better reception than hers. My ibook is the shizzle cause whenever I hook iy up yo an external monitor to watch a movie, it just works . I don't have to mess with video settings. Thanls to this ibook, I spend more time with my gf... I can watch a movie and then type or surf the web, chat with her, and do all of that stuff that they love. So man take it to the heart and don't follow wat other people tell u. You want an ibook, get it, just be patient for a good deal and u have enough cash. With that my friend i leave u. Oh yeah, I ran track and X-Country. I love running, but u guys weren't faster than me. U noobs got pwned... HAHAHA I ran distance in track. We might of not been the most popular, but hell we were the leanest and in best shaped guys all around. Tubby football players have no beef on us. LOL.. Remember tp everybody who hate running. "My sport is ur sport's punishment."

As evidence by your fantastic spelling abilities...

This kid asked for your advice on how to make money to get an iBook, not a critique of his life...

Since you're too young to get a wage. You could go around asking neighbors for jobs. Try babysitting. It has a negative stigma and people will probably make fun of you for it but you gotta do what you gotta do.

?

I'm shocked at some of the replies in this thread- I would think many people here would sympathize, rather than argue with Vu. We all know XP is a very pisspoor substitute for OS X, and that you get an entirely different experience on a Mac than you would a Dell. Also, having your own computer really helps in high school. I only graduated two years ago, but my good old PowerCenter Pro allowed me to do internet research and write papers on my own time, rather than fighting over the sought-after family Cube. It saved me a ton of time and stress, and I wish Dr. Vu the best of luck in securing his own Mac soon.

You're 14 you don't need a laptop.

Get a mini.

Yes, because fourteen year olds never have hobbies, they should focus on their efforts on school and never do anything outside of it.

(I've been writing since I was thirteen and I still desperately need a laptop)

Use Paragraphs damnit

I agree with the posters who suggest getting a summer job. It'll help you save some cash up, help you extend your social circle, and you'll appreciate your iBook all the more having earned it. ;)

I think I'm right in saying you'll be eligible for the Student Discount – I don't know how much cash you'll save but it'll help.

Start saving NOW, tell your parents and I'm sure that when you have saved half towards it they may help you out with a loan or advance xmas/birthday money. There are lots of people in the same situation as you, you will enjoy it more if you have had to work for it. Being popular / having true friends are not necessarily the same. Good luck with everything.

Yes, Get a Job.

Working for your money, then purchasing something with it will make you appreciate the value of it.

I started working summmers once I was 10 (kinda forced labor from dad...he had a construction company). ANywho, first wage was $1 per hour. But, I made almost $200/month on that. The next year was $3 per hour. Not bad for an 11 year old. I bought a mini bike that summer. I took good care of it, cause I bought it.

So, get off the forums, get off your butt, and get a job.

I would get a job and save my money, to buy one of the NEW x86 Mac notebooks in 2006. ;) :)

It's only junior high, it will come and go in a flash....dang if I can remember my junior high days. Those days flew way to quick, since I was focused and back then our school was running on Macs too. ;) :)

Technology is always changing, I WOULD NOT INVEST IN ANY Mac Hardware at present, also considering you have to scrap to buy an iBook. :)

Come on people, he is 14 and wants to buy an iBook, he needs some advice and not people ridiculing his motives.

It's clear he is tuned ON for the purposes he wants to invest in an iBook, however I say save most of our money as the Mac is changing from PPC ro x86, thus I suggest a used iBook G3/G4 and use it for the time being, you don't need a top of the line system for typing junior high news articles. A G3 iBook will do the job well, I have a G3 PB here if you want to make an offer. ;) :)

Try find some work, either with some businesses or in the neighbourhood. And all the best to you. :)

If you can wait, get the NEW x86 Mac notebooks in 2006 like what maya said. You might regret it later if you get yourself an iBook now, so you better think about it before purchasing. If you're not in a hurry and u have a system at home, i don't see why u would need one that urgent. However, iBooks are rather cheap at the moment so it's not really a too bad idea to get one now....

Or, how about if he waits until 2009 when dual core x86 chips trickle down into iBooks? Or he could wait until 2012 when Apple switches back to PPC after IBM or Freescale makes some amazing performance improvement.

The point is, buy the computer you need now because at any given moment you can't get anything done on a machine that doesn't yet exist as a shipping product.

At the moment he is scraping for cash, so the best thing to do is buy used. ;) :)

He will save some money, get the work done and have enough for a future proof Mac (x86) when its released. :D
