Help moving large amount of data over to new MBP

Hello-
I just received my first mac today. I immediatly hooked up my external HD and starting moving music photos etc over to the external HD to put on the MAC. The problem I'm having is I have 18gb of music that I'm copying from my external onto the MPB however it seems to be "stuck". Is there some other better method of doing this?

My music library is about 133GB and moving it from an external HD to the MBP via Firewire 800 took less than an hour.

That's just an application. It wouldn't affect the data transfer rate between an external HD and the MBP.

There are a bunch of different ways to do it, but they'd all run into the same problem. You could try doing it from the command line...

cp -v [drag the icon from your music folder into the Terminal window] ~/Desktop

I know it's to an external hard drive but I thought it was nonetheless Mac to Mac.

Everything on the external HD came from my PC. I dont have firewire just regular usb....so I may be in for a long night.

18 gigs over USB shouldn't take that long...
