After trying to reboot in safe mode with holding shift and command v I get the print out in the picture. What does this mean? Is he going to make it? I think he might need a triple Hard drive bypass surgery...

That is verbose mode you need s for safe mode I believe. Now I boot verbose at all times and I never see the no .plist (.plist are your system configuration files) found that to me indicates something is seriously wrong with your install. Hopefully you have current backup as I think a fresh install in is your near future.

Edit: Only the command key plus the letter is needed when booting to get that option used.

From Mac OS X: How to start up in single-user or verbose mode:
1. Shut down your Mac if it is on.
2. Press the power button to start the computer.
3. Immediately press and hold the Command key and one of the following:
  • the "s" key for single-user mode. (Command-S)
  • the "v" key for verbose mode. (Command-V)
You have successfully entered single-user or verbose mode when you see white text appear on the screen.
From OS X Mavericks: Start up in safe mode
  1. Shut down your Mac and wait 10 seconds.
  2. Press the power button.
  3. Immediately after you hear the startup tone, hold down the Shift key.
You should press the Shift key as soon as possible after you hear the startup tone, but not before.
  4. Release the Shift key when you see the gray Apple logo and progress indicator (spinning gear).
