My iMac has developed a slightly corrugated screen and faint vertical light and dark bands at sleep. I would appreciate any advice, as my Applecare will soon expire, and I want to get it sorted.

By “corrugated”, I mean slight corrugations you can feel when cleaning with a light cloth. Here is a photo of what I mean – the light vertical bands are exaggerated due to poor light lighting and my poor photographic skills.

My iMac specs: iMac (Retina 5K, 27-inch, 2017); Processor 4.2 GHz Intel Core i7; Graphics Radeon Pro 580 8 GB.

I recall that this model with this processor and this graphics card had some overheating issues, but I hardly push mine and the fans are rarely above idle. However, I do suspect heat could have played a part here.

If it was heat, does that mean the internal bits may be affected too?

Has anyone else experienced this screen problem? Any advice is welcome before I approach Apple.

I wouldn't wait too long until contacting Apple.
You want to get this resolved before AppleCare runs out...

I have the same issue on my i5, Radeon 580, 27 2017, I'm out of warrenty, and I didn't get apple care! It's not as severe as yours, but I can notice it when the computer is off at a different angle. I never worried about it until you made this post.

I have an fusion drive that I don't use anymore (I use a externel Samsung X5 as boot) and I have 24GB ram. A lot of rubbing with a very strong microfiber cloth made it look a lot better but it's still somewhat noticeble. And I can feel it with any cleaning cloth.

EDIT: I think it's a bit out of shape as well, but I think it's just my brain. Like I think that my imac isn't shraight?!
