Here are the facts:

- I currently use an HP notebook which I bought 3 years ago and it resembles a plastic-toy more than it does a professional notebook
- I've been an Apple fan forever and I've been looking to replace my notebook with a Mac since October of 2006 however when I finally decided that the switch was needed, it was May of 2007 and this site kept telling me to wait for Macworld this past January
- I'm finishing my 3rd year in university and I have one more left
- I mainly use the computer for music, internet browsing, word processing, and anything else the "average" computer user might do
- I'm going to be working on 2 new start-up companies this summer and both are internet-related

- You should also know I'm also very materialistic when it comes to clothes, shoes, and gadgets so I like to have the nicest and newest gadgets as soon as they come out because I like to be known as "that" guy. (I know I'm arrogant, leave me alone).

Here's what I'd like to know:

- I believe that a MacBook Pro is my best fit. I'd probably assume that I'd be a simple MacBook user however with the new businesses I'm starting - I feel that I might need something a little more professional. Am I wrong?
- Now that updated MacBook Pro has come out... when do you think the MacBook Pro redesign will be released (namely the thinner, new keyboard, larger trackpad, magnetic latch, etc.)?

Get the Pro. It will outlast the MB (still being able to run new software longer). Also, don't expect another update until August or September, if before January. (Apple usually runs in 6-month product cycles)

TEG

the way i see it .. if you can justify the extra cost of 500 or more .. you should go for it .. and as it seems .. you really want the MBP .. so i'd said go for it .. you'll regret it if you don't ( meaning you'll hate yourself for going less ) ..

For college a MacBook is probably better and even for your web work a MB would probably be ok but for that you might want to consider a Pro.

You might also want to consider getting a refurbished Santa Rosa Macbook (the next to newest model) for 1049 for a black model and then when you start doing web work get a new or refurb MacBook Pro, which by then may have got the redesign. You should still be able to sell the MacBook for ~$800-850 a year from now.

My guess is the redesign won't come until sometime next year.
